Dartmouth is one of the best colleges out there...academic-wise. Everyone should do a thesis, independent study, or some type of research work while they're enrolled to truly get their money's worth, though. Additionally, one should take advantage of all of the off-campus programs and leave-term internship opportunities that the D-plan affords...trust me on this one...You don't want to be like the guy who's miserable (check on the negative reviews). There are still some things that I don't like about Dartmouth : its location is in rural NH, nasty winters, and sometimes very awkward students who just don't seem grounded in reality...But, I'll let you be the judge

my grandpa and great grandpa had both gone to this school. when my grandpa died he wanted nothing but for me to go to dartmouth because he loved it so much. after visiting the campus and spending some time reading my grandpa's letters he left for me about going to dartmouth i realized that its the only place for me to be. he had the most amazing academic experience, the teachers were great and gave the appropriate work. i have heard people say that the social life isn't that good but from what i have heard from not only my grandpa but friends that are currently going there that it is not bad at all. i don't see why anybody wouldn't want to go to dartmouth!

I'm only in my second year here and already my spirit is broken. The weather is fairly miserable, the social "life" is non existent (unless you consider covering your ears to block out the shitty music while trying to rub past sweaty drunken idiots in a dingy basement a good time), there's nothing within walking distance or even within a reasonable driving distance that is fun to do, everyone is miserable but no one wants to admit it, and the academics are brutal. 8-10 week terms is NOT something good, trust me. Everything here is grade-driven, not based on whether or not you're actually learning and understanding the material. The profs aren't too horrible, at least if you check the Student Assembly website to avoid the crazies (which can't always be done, depending on your major). In short, read the other negative reviews. That guy that warns about his experience reflecting yours? Yeah, it will, trust me.
