Drew is a great small school with manyQuite BrightBiology
Drew is a great small school with many opportunities and valuable faculty & STAFF members! The same problems w/ Drew are the same with any similar small schools -- funding cuts and small enrollment limit the amount of building repairs and maintenance. Little funding is also left over for student activities and athletics. The education is great, but if you're looking for a campus that's modern and has things to do every night... go elsewhere. We're a small community and we really value individuality while retaining a collective respect.

Question
Drew University can be summed up with oneChemistry
Drew University can be summed up with one word -- individualistic. At Drew, you can be anything you want to be, but you have to be self-motivated. Drew is an extremely tolerant place that has a wide variety of students (hippies, gays, feminists, jocks, liberals, conservatives, etc.). The school offers its students incredible opportunities that are not generally available elsewhere, and inspires its students to go above and beyond the norm. However, while the school promotes greatness, nobody going to hand it to you.

The same is true for being a Drew alum. If you're looking for a college that will get you a high-paying corporate job upon graduation, this is not the school for you. However, if you're looking for a school that gives its students the knowledge and the vision to eventually become leaders in their fields, then consider Drew. Drew graduates have a long legacy serving the public -- a disproportionate number hold high-ranking positions in government and non-profit organizations. I graduated three years ago, and I am now a medicinal chemist. I design medical devices which allow people to live longer and more fulfilling lives. I was able to get this job, not because I know more chemistry than other people (I don't!), but because Drew taught be to think outside the box, and inspired me to believe that I could accomplish anything if I made the effort. I strongly recommend this school for any person who is independent-minded, and is willing to take advantage of the unique opportunities that Drew offers.

Question
I actually left Drew after my freshman year,Language - French/Spanish/etc.
I actually left Drew after my freshman year, but I still reccomend it to other people. The person who will be happiest at this school should either be into sports or drama as both are insta-social structures that are very supportive and engaging. There are a lot more opportunities for social events if you're involved in theatre or athletics. No one seems to have issues with other people's religion or sexuality. Drew will also serve you well if you want a good education, but not be overburdened by work. If you like individual attention and professors who will check up on you if you haven't shown for class, this is the place for you. Every prof I had was awesome, but in my opinion didn't make up for what the university lacks overall.

While many people rag on Madison, it does have one huge caveat: the train station. For $10 (round-trip) and 45 minutes of your time, you get whisked away to New York City. Plus, the train is a great place to study. The food needs some work, it's like soup kitchen quality with the exception of the nightly chef cooked options (2 choices) which you have to stand in line awhile for. But the campus is relaxed and beautiful. You wouldn't know you were in Jersey if it weren't for all the Jersey kids.

Drew has been doing a great job at furthering the quality of life and opportunities on campus. The president (former governor) Tom Keane is very involved. The school is on track to begin cutting back its acceptance rates, and is in the process of building some fantastic new facilities.

One complaint I had about Drew was that it was my first choice, but I soon discovered it was many people's back-up school, which lends a bit of a bitter and apathetic attitude to the environment. That was a huge factor in what lead me to transfer. People may ask you where Drew is now, but in 15 years I'm sure more people will know it on a map. And for people planning on spending a year somewhere to bolster their transcript before transferring to an elite school- this is a good place to do it. I originally applied early action to Drew, so I never intended to transfer, but it was a good enough background to get me into my first choice for the second round, Cornell University.
