Not so bright
I attended the essex county in west caldwell. The pros of this school is that it is small and your classes can be found more easily than the Newark campus. Tutoring sessions are very helpful too ! Teachers are helpful and friendly ! I have never had a mean teacher here that is not willing to work with you. There are many activities that bring the student body together. However the Staff (buscar, guidance etc) are very rude! They feel as though what they are doing is more important than your time. I have waited a hour for a dean, who was not doing anything, just to ask one question. But overall Essex County College West Caldwell is a great school

I am so glad for this site becuase there is a lot of bad things to say about Essex County College. It's a terrible school to go to. The only good experience I had was with two and the only two good teachers in the whole school. The school is always involved in some type of crises and the students "need to understand" while they pocket your money becuase half of their credentials are fake. Don't waste your money.....they are racist and only like their own kind. It's sad but true. I don't have enough space spill out all the beans.... save yourselfs don't go to this school.

Quite Bright
If you have no choice, then this isn't the worst place in the world to get started. Nor is it the best. Not because of the faculty, but because of the students. I realize it's community college, but as an adult returning to school after 20 years to get my degree, I expected a higher level of intellect from the students. Instead, the student body is filled with morons, malcontents, criminals, psychopaths, and the just plain lazy. This describes almost every male attendee in the 18 - 22 age range.

The faculty, and the academic rigor, is surprisingly good. I found most of my courses, especially the science/math/economics classes, rather challenging. There were a few classes that are a waste of time (art appreciation, for example, where we had to build a shoebox project. A shoebox project in college!! Why not macaroni glued to a paper plate as well!)

It's in a decent section of Newark, and I take mostly night classes, and I've never felt threatened or endangered. Cops are always present. Put in your two years to save money, then go to a 4-year; avoid the gang-bangers and the future ex-cons; and you should be alright.
