My best advice to any incoming freshmen isBrightCivil Engineering
My best advice to any incoming freshmen is don't take NJIT math as a joke. You really need to study your math every single day to do well, especially in Calculus 2.

NJIT is a half commuter school, half residents. Despite the rumors, NJIT definitely has a large social atmosphere. Many people at this school are introverted so to them there's not much going on because they choose not to do anything on the weekends! I commuted for a year and was not involved socially at school much (I lived an hour away, so it was difficult to do that). I can tell you from experience however, once I started dorming everything changed. It was honestly the best decision I made in college! Get involved in Greek Life, go to some of the sporting events, and get involved on/around campus and you will be happier. Believe me.Also another tip: don't be one of those people who are afraid to go off campus because "it's Newark". University Heights is one of the safest parts of Newark, only behind Ironbound and Northern Newark. So venture out with your friends and actually DO SOMETHING instead of using the excuse that it is Newark. Newark is gentrifying, so that's not an excuse. Only the close-minded suburban people who have never actually seen anything for themselves would say ALL of Newark is ghetto.

There will be many conflicting opinions.Quite BrightBiology
There will be many conflicting opinions. I personally love NJIT. A student in the honors college, and living on campus, we get to live in the newest dormitory addition they have on campus. The facilities are great--they have a new computer lab, new libraries, a new restaurant, a new convenience store and a new gym. At first, I dreaded going to NJIT, especially because of the things I read online about the school, however, I love it here! The people are friendly, NYC is a 20 minute train ride away, and it's also conveniently close to home if I ever want to visit my family again. This school is well known as a research institution, and there are many opportunities to take advantage of the resources on and near campus. The academics will vary. The upper level classes are definitely a lot harder than the lower level courses. Many people don't like it here because of a lack of social life, however, there are many events happening on campus; you just need to pay attention and you'll find things to do on campus. I just really love NJIT because I've made several close friends and the fact that it's a smaller school allows you to have a tighter feeling of community on campus.
