This review is on the Rutgers law school in newark.

Overall Rutgers is a good law school. If you can't get into one of the top 10 or 15 law schools in the country definitely consider Rutgers.

The worst part of the law school is it is in downtown newark. I think the law school is relatively safe however the surrounding neighborhood isn't. If you live in NJ or NY city then commute. If you come from out of state then live nearby and commute.

If you want to goto law school in NJ your choice is Camden (Rutgers Camden) or Newark (Rutgers of Seton Hall). Newark is safer.

I chose Rutgers because I can aford it. Unfortunately, due to state budget problems the price keeps going up.

Most of the teachers are good, some are excellent, there are of course a few bad ones. You'll get a good education if you want one.

My perception is that local law firms from NY and NJ will take a look at you if you have good grades. The good students get good summer jobs and good jobs after graduation.

The students are generally friendly and helpful. People are trying to get good grades so they can get good jobs but they aren't cut throat. Also, the school doesn't try to weed out students like some other law schools.

The student body is very diverse. This is by design. It's also probably why the law school is ranked lower then it should be. When you apply you have a choice of being evaluated based on LSAT and grades OR based on "life experience." This results in a lower average LSAT for an entering class and therefore a lower ranking in US news.

I find this useful. You get a wide range of viewpoints in the class.

There is also a larger then usual percentage of older students. People in industry who have decided to go back for a JD.

If you are a minority or an older student you'll feel comfortable here.
