Regarding Administrative Staff, less than helpful to a first year student. At the end of my first semester, I was informed 78% was not "good" enough to stay in the program. I was not offered Academic Probation as it states in their brochure. I transferred to another acupuncture school, and was shocked they would not transfer my percents onto my transcript.
SWAC has a very stressful environment, look into other acupuncture programs.

Not so bright
School may be for sale. A number of teachers have resigned reciently. Replacements have been below standard. Basically a good program but if you are considering it. Inquire about weather the sale is done. Doubt it will close but be informed. This school is going through changes,

SWAC is a great school with incredible professors. The program is certainly top notch, and the clinical experience and opportunites are unsurpassed. As of 2005, SWAC students can practice in 3 different hospitals in NM (1 in ABQ and 2 in Santa Fe). In addition, there are other externships available that focus on women's health, mental health, and pediatrics to name a few. The student clinic is also a fantastic learning enviroment.

Another advantage of SWAC is that it provides a solid TCM education while allowing students to delve into other styles of Oriental medicine. Even most of the TCM instructors have experience with and use other styles of Orietnal medicine, and I have found that they are very open to sharing this knowledge.

Lastly, SWAC really has stepped up its Chinese herb program in the past few years. Courses that were electives are now requirements, and they are started teaching herbs earlier in the program. This has been very beneficial to the students, as the herbs take more exposure, time and work to learn. Additionally, all of the Chinese professors highly encourage you to use herbs in the clinic. They are also really good at helping you convince the patients to try the herbs. The herbal pharmacy is complete with loose herbs, granulars, and patent herbs.

I've almost graduated from SWAC and would highly recommend to anyone considering attending that they take their western science course work at a major university before attending. One of the downfalls of our school is the lack of adequate instruction in western sciences and the fact that once you've entered the program, you're not allowed to take this coursework elsewhere. I feel that we have a great oriental medical program that is based on much more than just TCM for those that are interested in learning more than just that modality, and for that i am thankful. I do feel, though, that over the years, the school has become more focused on money and less on their students.
