I would not recommend going to MCNY. Here you are not a name and the only number you are is a dollar sign (the money you are bringing in to the school). Academic standards here are a complete joke. I can understand helping non traditional students succeed in life, but many of the students are very ill-prepared for college of any sort.

The major problem with MCNY is the administration. Why would a school with barely 900 students have FIVE Vice Presidents? There is absolutely no reason for all of this administrative overhead. In addition, you have Deans with multiple secretaries, yet many departments are grossly understaffed. There is a serious problem of this institution when.....

- The Financial Aid department consists of only THREE people.
- The Bursar Department consists of only THREE people.
- Career Services consists of only TWO people.
- All of the computer equipment, printers, faxes, etc.
being maintained and repaired by an IT HelpDesk which consists of only TWO people.

All of this understaffing, yet there are FIVE Vice Presidents.

Why?

So there are few people doing a ton of work while the school has an administration who does there own thing, collecting six figure incomes and acting as if all is well. I am seriously surprised that the regular staff has not gone through some any health problems.

Some common sense is also needed at this school. Competitive tuition, updated equipment (a couple of the computer labs are really old and outdated), a faculty that gives a damn (I swear some of the adjunct professors look and act as if they were picked and hired right off the street), Deans that give a damn (I believe that only the MS Ed. Director ACTUALLY visits classrooms and speake to students, I would not know who my Dean was if he/ she was standing in front of me, which is expected for a large school, but not good for this one) and a complete change in the administration (fewer Vice Presidents and adequate staffing). These are the things that will get students to come in and keep them in with the possibility of recommending others in. It is the staffing (a lack of it) that leads to stress and frustration, a major reason why the service here is so pathetic. Some of the staff are very helpful. I am sure that even the helpful individuals could do better with ACTUAL support.

Metropolitan College of New York is predominantly a non-traditional college, where students are not your average, run of the mill, 18-21 year olds, but rather students that work full-time and attend classes mostly in the evenings. Another thing to note about students is that many of us (I'm not saying all) come from backgrounds where we faced adversity such as trouble with the law, teen pregnancy and other unique life situations. The Audrey Cohen School for Human Services is a great program despite what the two other reviews mentioned. Yes, I do believe that the school should hold students accountable for their work and their actions. However, the school is willing to invest in students that want to make their lives better and the communities we live in safer. Is that so bad? While students whine and complain about the level of service or the inadequacies of the college, I chose to funnel all my energies into being active at Metropolitan. Thanks to my hard work and education at Metropolitan, I have been accepted to the Columbia University School of Social Work. Now, you tell me.. is Metropolitan so bad?

I was very disappointed after attending Audrey Cohen (now Metropolitan College) after one semester. The academic standards are unmentionable. The college enrolls students without having a HS Diploma or GED and allow those without the necessary academic credentials to obtain their GED after receiving 30 college credits. Given the fact that the college does not have remedial courses, I was forced to sit in class with individual who cleary were incapable of handling college level work. Students were allowed to take the entrance exam twice and were tutored to pass (because there are no remedial courses). The computer lab had approximately 20 computers of which 7 to 10 worked and my class had roughtly 16 students.

Students were allowed to take final exams and mid-terms after the scheduled tests date. The administration is a joke and is very incompotent. I transfered out after my first semester and would advise students to go to a State University, City College and do the 4 years and do not settle for a second rate education at Audrey Cohen/Metropolitan College. Many students stick with the school because of the accelerated program and the quick degree but fail to realize that they are not going to be equipped with the necessary skills to advance in the job market upon graduating.

College of Human Service/Audrey Cohen/Metropolitan College is great disappointment and given that it has three name changes should be a true indication of its low academic standards.

My college sucks. Academics are at an all time low and sexual liasions between students and teachers are rampant. Furthermore, it is absurd that the protocol does not work.
