Alfred University is a very small university in the poorest county of New York state. I've never even heard of it before and only applied because I recieved a scholarship and it has an engineering deparment, which doesn't even have electrical engineering (my choice of major). The school virtually accepts just about everybody and there are so many arrogant, ignorant, closeminded students. I have only made two good friends at this school and it was even over the fact that all three of us hate it here and are transferring after just one year. The town has nothing, your body does not function on the food and it is certainly not worth the hefty price tag. My biggest mistake in highschool was that I did not care enough and do enough research. Take my advice: Do research, put forth the effort, plan ahead of time and CHOOSE WISELY!!! This place is miserable, I am so glad to get the f**k outta here.

This place is cold and dreary and isolated. Almost everyone would transfer if they could.

I'm now a Sophomore with serious thought of transfering out. After being there for a year, i've realized I don't like art students and some of the kids are hippies which I don't like. It's too cold and far away from Jersey. The town sucks and the people in the towns are sort of hick-ish. However, I loved the small campus size but I want a campus that isn't on a mountain and has more people and in a city or big town that actually has places to go. The parties are limited too. The Art & Design is very good as well as the Engineering, but they don't have the advertising/marketing courses I want. I want a city that's not almost an hour 1/2 away and there is life outside of the university...which there really isn't much unless you go to Hornell and that place has nothing except a Wal-Mart (oh wow...) If you like being in the middle of nowhere and freezing winters then you should go here. I am used to suburbia and a ton of more people around me so I don't like this type of environment.
