Every graduate applicant will be accepted if she/he does not request full financial assistance. Clarkson's faculty is pretty weak. Also, Clarkson's research facilities are sub par, worse than those of North Korea's colleges. Potsdam is a crappy village. Transportation and food are bad. Local residents are close minded.

In short, an awful university.

Civil Engineering

clarkson is unimpressed at all. it is definitely not a decent college.

in addition, north country is a hick town.

clarkson's professors are weak, so are its students.

fortunately, i will transfer to rpi very soon.

Civil Engineering

First I will comment on the positive aspects of clarkson. First and foremost the education for engineers and scientists is excellent. The work is very challenging and results in a high level of understanding, given that the student put in the work. Secondly, The student body is relatively friendly and willing to help one another with school work, which is not always something you encounter at other engineering universities. And lastly, it is very safe at clarkson, you really don't need to worry about crime or violence at clarkson. Now, on to the other side of things.....as you've probably already read from other reviews, the campus is UGLY. It looks nice in the summer, but who is around to see it. None of the money that the students pour into that damn school is put back to the campus or the students. Secondly, there is nothing to do. Most students either drink or stay in their rooms or both to pass the time. The town is also not very nice to look at and to top it all off everything closes by six. My third and biggest complaint is the female situation. They have what they call the "clarkson syndrome". Meaning that when girls come here they find themselves surrounded by multiple guys at all times. The result is these girls, who aren't the best lookers i may add, think they are super models, which to me is just rediculous. Anywhere else the girls that go to clarkson would be considered below par, but here if a girl is skinny, she is considered beautiful. Most of the guys i know are pretty upset about this. My advice to anyone considering clarkson is that though the education is good, ITS NOT WORTH IT, find another school with an equal or better program and go there. If i could make one suggestion to clarkson, it would be to start a beauty school right in the center of campus, WE NEED PRETTY GIRLS HERE MAN, I'M FREAKIN DYING!!!!!!!!

Chemistry

Clarkson University is a nice campus and is improving with
the newly-elected president. However, in general, it is
an undergraduate institution and needs to recognize its
graduate student body more than it does. We formed a
Graduate Student Association (GSA) in order to voice some
of the graduate student's concerns, and things are getting
done. The Clarkson computer system (Office of Information
Technology) has also had issues, but is working to improve.
Potsdam, itself, is very small town (not city) and some
people believe that there is not much to do around here. I
personally enjoy that aspect of the campus, but I recommend
you come and visit and decide for yourself whether the
campus, your major's program and faculty, and the town is
right for you. :)
