I am a sophomore at Elmira College. I am a double major and have the Presidential Scholarship, or roughly half of my tuition paid. If you were to come here for more than a week while the campus is not gilded for potential freshmen, you would find that the list of negatives versus positives is many times longer. Yes, the campus is small, so you know everyone and your teachers know your name. Yes, the campus is quite pretty, so laying outside during the spring is wonderful. But, the cost, both in value and actual money, is too high. EC has an incredibly backwards administration. It reminds you of a 1950s campus, fake smiles and fake laughter everywhere. I could write of a dozen different things trying to explain to you just how pitiful this school is, but it really requires experiencing it. Once there are no parents and the freshmen have finished orientation, the school becomes something different altogether. If you want a small school, just look somewhere else. Several years of your life wasted is not worth a mere scholarship. I am leaving next year, and then I can finally have a college experience.

My experience at Elmira College has been awesome! I am graduating in few months and I will miss EC a lot! The level of education and additional help when necessary that I received was excellent. As an internation student I could not have chosen a better institution.

Absolutely, the worst decision of my life. I had no intention of attending this college. However, they suckered me and my family in by offering a large scholarship. Therefore, I visted the campus and found the small campus to be what I liked the most (since I come from an extremely small town and school). Also, the college is only about an hour from my hometown. Now looking back I wish I had never fallen for Elmira?s deceitful tour and scholarship. I have nothing nice to say about this college, and I?m not the only one. However, if your wealthy, love purple, love hockey and can get away with wasting four years of your life then you?ll love Elmira. The school spirit is overwhelming and honestly, when you attend Elmira you are paying for tradition not education. The Encore program is the worst program that the college offers. The Writing program is extremely intense and irritating but in the long run you will become a better writer. Overall, I truly wish I had put more thought and effort into my college search during high school. If I could do it all over again I would not have even wasted my time visiting this over-priced, purple obsessed, and overall miserable college placed in the middle of a the Elmira ghetto. :(
