Houghton is a great college if you are willing to be stretched. The faculty is highly qualified and they will expect high standards from you. While attending I was an average student but pursuing my Masters I found my self at the top of my class due to my training at Houghton. There is a very diverse population for a small school so your peers will not be exactly like you. If you are looking for students that always think, act and dress the same as you then Houghton is not the place. My only regret about attending is the loans I am still paying off six years later. I would and have recommended this school to my friends and family!

Excellent college if you plan to study and graduate more knowledgeable than when you came in. Very few people have heard of this college but the ones that have heard of it have a VERY good impression. This year the administration is starting to publicize the college more effectively with the help of a private agency. Houghton is ideal for good scores on grad school admissions exam, assuming you take advantage of the opportunities.

My experience as a chemistry major at Houghton has been both intellectually challenging and rewarding. Chemistry is not easy, and i have come to appreciate the challenge of mastering a difficult subject well. Having been accepted into a number of PhD programs, I am leaving Houghton with an excellent preparation for graduate shcool, and in many ways it is significantly better than what larger and more prestigous universities offer. I have also learned many lessons that extend beyond chemistry: hard work, perseverence, patience, and discipline. Learning in a Christian atmosphere, under the guidance of excellent professors has been a wonderful opportunity. The quality of my professors, the high standards they have set, and their desire to see their students learn has been central to my experience and education at Houghton.
