School counseling program is overcrowded, they will let anyone in. Horrific experience and a waste of $50,000. If I could trade in my diploma for my money back, and start over, I would do so without a question.

i don't understand the complaints about no social life. the campus became wet a few years ago, so i can only guess that those ratings are older because there is partying. lots of it.

My college experience has, thus far, not been what most of the reviews here are claiming it will be. From the day I got my acceptance letter, I have referenced this site and was worried over the horrors that it claims this school has. However, I decided that I would rather experience it myself than trust everyone else. And honestly, it hasn't been awful yet.

I can attest to the fact that this is a pretty high commuter school. That being said, you are friendly with the people in your dorm or your floor. So that shouldn't affect you much. Also, the gym is open and the bus [though not as regular as on weekdays] can still take you to the mall, train station, movie theatre, etc if you don't have a car. But there are plenty of bars and clubs. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If you have a car, you have the opportunity to go out every weekend, as a lot of people do. And weekdays are not dull. People chill outside of the dorms or have parties within them every single day. I know this because I have classes at 8a.m. and am frequently intolerant of the noise. Plus, LIU works hard to always keep people busy. They host parties probably twice a week on average that a lot of people do go to. These are usually on the weekdays as well.

Academically, it can go both ways. I am in the honors program, and I find that the classes for the honor program are quite challenging. But it isnt a matter of 'too difficult to understand', it is more a matter of 'too few grades'. One of my classes has 3 grades per semester. On the other hand, the 2 class non honors classes that I am taking are very easy. It is hard to judge if that is the norm, though. The teachers definitely have side projects that they are working on, but we have a 'common hour', which is time whn teachers are available. Also, they all have e-mails and I have had pretty good experiences thus far.

My biggest issue about this school is the food. Do not get me wrong on this. It isnt that the food tastes bad, it is that there is no mch variety. There is the cafeteria area where everyone goes, and while they try to offer new things, everyone invariably gets the same pizza or waits in long long lines for a burger or omlette. If you re willing to go the 5 min walk to the student center, you can get subway, etc. But after a month of having to walk 5 minutes to eat, you 'll agree that it s not worth it. Also, the caf opens at 7:30 and closes at 8. These times have been a big cause of stress for me, as that is literally a 12 hour fast between meals. Moreso if you have a later class. Definitely bring food for your dorm.

And, speaking of dorms, they aren't that bad. Each student gets a large wardrobe, a dressor a desk and a bed. I brought my entire wardrobe and managed to fit it. Now, my issue with the dorms is water. Some of the dorms have water foutains that usually dont work, I'm in one of the dorms with no water fountains. So your choices are to thirst all night [and with no air conditioning, you will be thirsting] or to buy a water fom the vending machine for 1.60. Since the caf closes at 8, all access to water does as well. Is this allowed?! Who knows. We've adapted. So be sure to bring a ton of water bottles or gallons of water. I'm not joking on this. All in all, this college really is what you make of it. The walls are covered with posters of club meetings and there s lots of events. There is such diversity on campus, and I'll admit, the cliques can get a little racial, but most of my friends aren't of my race so there s no rule. The biggest drawback of this school is tuition. And if I'm being honest, I'd say go to a community college first. Not because of anything this school has done, but because you associates is the same regardless. I believe with board it is 42k here. But if you have the money, spend it. Come in with an open mind and form your opinions because just as al these people couldnt tell me how my experience has been, I can't tell you how your's will be.
