Quite Bright
Alot of these past posts I have read are truly wrong.First off the school is not over priced at $7,000 a semester, which is double of a cuny school and about the same as a SUNY school. Note that both SUNY and CUNY schools are over crowded. I went to QCC and then to Queens college which had 150 students in a psychology class, the classes here average 15 students. Note that the numbers are skewed because of night classes which are mostly continuing education who need pre req's for GRad school. I have had a class with seven students before and to me thats a priority. Maybe its my major (health science,DPT) but all the professors are very understanding and helpful not to mention have multiple PHD's in their fields. The students here are mostly commuters so why would there be such activity on a campus not to mention that there are 4 campuses. I admit alot of the students here are just looking for a "C" and a degree but thats every school. There are alot of intelegent students in the science department who will show every one in these posts a thing or two. TO enter the DPT program last year the lowest GPA was 3.7 in a class of 22 if that is a sign what "westchester" students are capable of Im moving up there tomorrow. Also, why does every one need to talk to the other students. Its not a popularity contest. we go to school to learn and get a job not to to have a social life. The argument of the financial aid is not a Mercy problem its every schools problem. THis is my third school the second in which i will earn a degree and every school has a policy and gets backed up with financial aid and billing. RELAX!!!!!! Some one wrote they didnt get there check early enough. why do you need a check to go to school and get an education? Finaly, to the people who wrote that Mercy's credits are not worth anything you are rediculous. Mercy did not accept credits from my earlier schools. In every school there is a description by what people go by for credit transfer, if the description doesnt match you dont get the credit. I had a proffesor that taught the same exact class at colombia. So how do those credits not add up to anything in your opinion. If you dont like a school because no body pays attention to you dont come on message boards crying. Transfer and let it be.
Education Quality: A+, Social Life: D+

I attended Mercy for two years and graduated with a masters degree in school counseling. All of my classes were on the Bronx campus.

I am so sorry that I wasted so much money to receive a degree from a school that I am embarassed to say I attended. This school will accept anyone. I MEAN ABSOLUTELY ANYONE!!. Many of the students I attended GRADUATE classes with did not have even the basic skills, written or oral, needed for an undergrad. degree.

This is a ghetto school!. I should have known by all of the ads and so much of the schools resources going into recruitment, that this was a school interested only in admitting students for the money.

So many students take out thousands of dollars in loans and are unable to get jobs. In many cases students are ill prepared to even complete the degree. A 4.0 GPA at Mercy, is equal to a B- OR C+ at a real college.

95 percent of the professors I had knew very little about the classes they were teaching. One professor, who spent the class reading from a book, even told me I could teach the class. The professors they hire or school counselors who retired from the field years ago and know very little about how school counseling works in NYC schools now. The majority of Mercy's professors are only there to make a buck and have zero interest in really teaching.

One group processes teacher missed five classes, left early, spent the class eating Burger King food and texting. For one class the professor put on a movie and left. Only one time did he even lecture the class. This professor did not even try to hide his lack of respect for the students. When we complained, he bought in his supervisor who them told us that he shared an office with the group processes teacher and considered him a friend.

I took a class with this "supervisor" on reserach methods. He never once lectured the class or even attempted to teach anything about reseach methods. He in fact spent the class coming on to young girls in the class and reading a book. This while the class, broken into groups, conducted reseach with no help or information from the professor. I do not even believe he read the papers we wrote.

One Professor had students in a GRADUTE program watch movies on mental illness for the class, the whole semester. She never lectured on the subject of the class. When she did speak it was about the elderly people she was responsible for. It was very odd.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CONDITION ATTEND MERCY'S SCHOOL COUNSELING GRADUATE PROGRAM. YOU WILL GRADUATE WITH ABSOLUTELY NO KNOWLEDGE TO BEGIN YOUR CAREER AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN LOANS. YOU DO NOT EARN A DEGREE FROM THIS SCHOOL YOU BUY IT!! THERE IS NO ATTEMPT TO HIDE THE FACT THAT MERCY PROVIDES A POOR QUALITY EDUCATION.

THEY REALLY HAVE NO SHAME.

THE STUDENTS ARE LAST ON THE LAST WE HAVE TO BEG FOR ATTENTION. THIS COLLEGE IS A MEAN JOKE
the financial aid department is ran by a bunch of idiots. i always ALWAYS have to go to them. they never do your financial aid package. ALL of the financial aid counselors who work there have never solved a problem i had. I ALWAYS end up just opening a new credit card or begging for money from my church. i pay close to $10,000 each semester with 0 help from financial aid. The last time i talk to financial aid they told me this. this is their exact words.

Financial Aid: um yes u have to pay your bill
Me: i know i have to pay it but i need help. the letter u sent me in the mail said to call you so you could help me resolve my problem. and i need help to resolve it

Financial Aid: ummm.....idkk
Me: what? is this the first time this has ever happened to a student in the college? you guys told me this extremely late and i have to graduate next month. you guys dont have any emergency funds to help in situations like this?

Financial Aid: no idk the only thing you can do is pay the bill
Me: omg...could i set up a payment plan
Financial Aid: no you to just pay 9,300 all at once
Me: OMG r u serious there is nothing i could do
Financial Aid: no just pay the bill
Me: is there someone else i could talk to
Financial Aid: here my supervisors number ####
Me: Alright ....bye
Financial Aid: bye
( 2 hrs later the SUPERVISORS ASSISTANT calls me back) and tells me the same exact thing i didnt even sound like he tried to look for anything he was just saying no the whole time. no no no no no no no no ( i was like ok let me just go cause it sounded like i was listen to a broken record )

i mean if i had $9,300 to just pay i would pull it out of my pocket and just pay it or i would be in college if i had money just lying around TO JUST PAY OUTTA NOWHERE

In the arts department there are three good teachers and i wish they had their own school. during class critiques the prof want each student to talk but before we say anything they being to down grade every students work. they dont care if you stayed up all night working your heart out on it. the first question they ask the class about the students work is WHAT DONT U LIKE ABOUT IT ? not tell me one good thing and one bad thing about it. ONLY what you hate about it. this created a lot of tension between the students. there is a graphic design prof there now who always catches attitude with the students and smile in our faces. abusing her power as our teacher. a couple of the students are favored and treat better than others. those students are the one who r able to give 100% to their work all day cause they dont have a job. but the student who work and go to school or have children dont get the same praise when they show their work. also the profs expect u to know everything before teaching it to you. showing off by asking you questions they learned in grad school. also i was trick last yr. my prof and the program direct both told a class full of about 25 or 28 students that if we attended a trip in the city and pay for it with our money we would be reimbursed. had 2 trip to the city which require a train and a taxi and added up to 40 dollars each time. WE DIDNT GET ANY OF OUR MONEY BACK. my friend sent a email to the director and he never responds but walks past our classrooms and each of us everyday without feeling guilty.

also the professor demand that we purchase books each semester to keep up with the class. WE READ THE BOOK ONCE AND THATS IT. the books cost 250 dollars and when we sell them back the man at the book store inspects the book and we get $10 for a 250 book still in perfect condition

also there are two printers available to the students in the arts program. these print break down each and everyday. i swear to you there isnt a day that the print doesnt break. the man who fixes the printer can never be found. when the printer does work and that is rarely it cut a line straight through your reports, term papers, and artwork. then you have to hear it from ur teacher "WHY IS THIS CUT IN YOUR PAPER " ME: IDK THE PRINTER DOES THAT EACH TIME IT PRINT" prof; YOU GUYS HAVE TO BE CAREFUL OF HOW YOU PRINT. YOU ARE VERY CARELESS ABOUT UR ARTWORK oh yea and it also sprays black ink all over the paper.

the professors expect the world and more from their students and slack off 99% of the time even though we are paying for them to help us. the only time they straighten up is we they are showing off our work that they just shitted on us for to potential students looking at joining the program does that making any sense NO.

the online profs are a JOKE i dont where that find them. they are scared to reply to the students and do not take their jobs seriously lol A JOKE. plus i saw a ad on craiglist for a prof to teach at mercy. the person that they hired was very young and lacked good teaching skills. i dont think they cared who they hire it could of been the craiglist killer teaching us. but i guess as long as mercy got their money everything was ok

ALSO THERE ARE NO BONDING EVENTS TO JOIN THE STUDENTS TOGETHER. LEAVING MANY OF THE STUDENTS LOST AND WALKIN AROUND BY THEMSELVES

To sum it all up MERCY COLLEGE

-is pathetic
-over priced for no reason ( u pay all this money and get nothing back
-it workers are horrible expect 4 about 2% of it staff
-the financial aid offices are no help at all 100% of the time they dont no what to do ( which leaves me wondering what do they do) probably just say no and idk all day

-PICK ANOTHER SCHOOL DONT GET PULLED IN HERE
ALSO THESE ARENT JUST MY EXPERIENCES THEY ARE COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCES OF PEOPLE IN OTHER PROGRAMS, GRADE LEVELS FRESHMEN-SENIORS AND GRADUATES, PARENTS, AND PROFESSORS.

SINCERELY YOUR FORGOTTEN, SCARRED & UNAPPRECIATED MERCY COLLEGE STUDENT OF THE CLASS OF 2011
