RPI is a great school. I would recommend it to anyone looking into engineering. It is definitely a top-rated
engineering program. If you want the best nuclear engineering program out there, then look no further than RPI. If you want a party school, this is not it. Be prepared to work from the moment you set foot on campus. Still, there are loads of opportunities outside of academia. I play basketball, sing in one of the small groups, on the school of engineering student advisory council, a member of the American Nuclear Society, and active in community service and campus activities. I never have a dull moment.

Not so bright
RPI is really an all around great school. Being the oldest school for engineering in the country they do it right. There is so much to do with over 200 clubs and organizations. RPI is the total package... an amazing education respected throughout the world and a great social scene to live and laugh while you spend your time here.

Every college has both positive and negative attributes. The key is to focus on what really matters -- the education. RPI provides a top quality education with tremendous earning potential right out of college. I chose RPI because it is one of the best engineering schools in the country and as exclusive as any Ivy League. Just this year, there were over 12,000 applications for the 750 engineering slots. Obviously, the demand to attend is VERY high! Therefore, the school is quite prestigious.

This is my first year, and, still, I have found a tremendous amount to do on campus socially, educationally, and as a volunteer. I have been appointed to the School of Engineering Student Advisory Council and hold executive level positions in on-campus organizations. RPI has more on-campus clubs and organizations than any other college in the country as of 2008.

I have found the professors to be more than helpful! This is totallly different from what I had expected to find. Even the level of teaching is above what I had anticipated. And, I had top expectations, having attended a top private college-prep school.

In reading these reviews, I think the students need to be realistic in their expectations. First, before deciding to attend any TECH school, make sure you are certain of your major. There isn't much flexibility (outside of engineering, management, and IT) once you arrive. Next, as with any TECH school, there are more guys than gals. Still, there are many beautiful, smart women on campus. I, for one, am a state beauty queen and had an exclusive one-year modeling contract with a major clothing line. And, I am by no means the prettiest girl on campus. In reality, most of the students (boys and girls alike) are NOT geeks or ugly...but, regular, average-looking students!

In general, I love it at RPI. I always feel safe, but I'm not stupid about it. I wouldn't go walking around at midnight by myself, but I wouldn't do that at home, either. RPI is located in Troy, NY (upstate NY), and while there may not be a lot to do in Troy, Albany, the state capitol) is a short bus ride away. You can find anything you want to do on or off campus!

Finally, RPI is so well-regarded in the engineering field that I have already been awarded two prestigious internships for the summer.
