I am from Saratoga and was worried about my transition from 'towny' to student. I have to say this school has been so amazing it has felt like an entirely different experience than the one I had in highschool. If you do decide to come to skidmore be prepared to work. It's tough, but as long as you work hard you will definately get as much out of it as you put into it.

Alright- I HATED this school Freshmen year. I was in the Art Dept- which basically runs the show at this college. They broke me to pieces and spit me out. I had no idea of the caliber of the program I was in (I have since done graduate studies towards my masters which have not been as rough as getting through Skidmore's art major). I was not really involved in any other majors so I will not speak for them. But honestly- I could not have been more prepared for whatever task is thrown my way in the work world. I have a job. In this shit ass economy I was able to find one. And Yes- this school is weird. If you are a normal, happy, uneventful person who enjoys the same breakfast every morning- this school will throw you off your rocker. It is full of untraditional, crazy, odd kids and it is certainly an acquired taste. Garnish with cherry and drink up.

Agreed that at a school that costs so much there are going to be wealthy students. However, many of my friends have financial aid, as well as a large portion of the athletes. It a wonderful city to go to school in, with shopping, excellent restaurants, and tons of night life. Skidmore's split into 2-3 different categories: hipster art students and business major/athletes, with a good chunk of theater/music majors. If you fit into one of those categories then you'll love it. If you don't then you might not. Wonderful art program and business program. I've heard great things about the exercise science program. The exterior of buildings on campus are kinda ugly, but thats something that you stop noticing after the first few weeks because you get used to it and the general area and town is amazing. The dining hall is freaking awesome, with something for everyone. Academics are interesting and challenging for the most part, but I've heard career services kinda sucks. Overall, great location, great academics, community and social life; however, very small and segregated student.
