Cortland is a beautiful school filled with lots of interesting/outgoing people. Obviously there's also some arrogant/close-minded people also, but there are people like that everywhere. I would say all of my professors so far have been very intelligent and caring aside from maybe 1 or 2.

There is lots of things to do, lots of clubs, rec sports, and sporting events. The school spirit is great. If you don't drink, it's fine. There are plenty of people that don't drink and stay in and hang out on weekends. If you DO drink, that's also fine, because generally the student body here is an exciting one and very willing to go out and have a fun time.

The campus is absolutely beautiful in the fall and spring time. Lots of trees, flowers, and the campus just seems to sparkle when the evening sun hits it from a certain angle.

Cortland may seem like an iffy school at first, but after a little bit, I was easily able to call it home. I love it here.

I have been in SUNY Cortland for two years now and I have to say I am having a blast. I enjoy most things about this school. The students are friendly and they like to party. You could find different types of students here and almost everyone is from NY.

The things I love about this SUNY Cortland:
-Sports: from intramural sports to the school teams; sports are a way of life in Cortland.
-Dorms: Small but homey dorms. Great place to party and meet people.
-Parties: Tons of parties. There is one every weekend!
-Classwork: Its pretty light and easy classwork, but the teachers have their own unique way of explaining their subjects making it more interesting for the students.
-Cost: Good education/professors for a low affordable price.

The things I hate about SUNY Cortland:
-Small town: I don't even know if you could call this place a town. Its more little a tiny gathering of people.
-Distance from classes: Some classes are far away from dorms and during the winter the snow makes moving a hassle.
-Weather: Cold and bitter. You better get used to it.

Overall I feel that I have made the correct decision going to SUNY Cortland. The students and teachers are nice and helpful. The campus is clean and beautiful. Cortland is a pretty underrated school, but I am sure you will not be disappointed if you chose to go here.

This school is absolutely terrible. the chemistry department sucks. I'd only suggest coming to this school if you're going to be a physical education or sports management major....like everyone else....who isn't going to have a job because this school accepts too many people to that program. Oh, you can also come to this school if you like waking up and looking out your window to see a graveyard. Also, the food is terrible, the teachers are complete idiots, there are like maybe 20 computers throughout the school for students to use. ok basically this school sucks and i can't wait to leave.

My personal experience:

I started Fall 2009 semester and I left after three weeks of unbelievable craziness. In that time I saw two floor mates taken to the hospital for intoxication and last Saturday, the RA was acting as a triage nurse in the common room asking nearly unconscious guys "do you need medical attention?". That same night (around 3am) the girl across the hall was screaming and accusing her on campus boyfriend of rape...the cops were chasing him down last I heard. I had a couple situations where, when walking across campus I was so scared I called my parents (very late at night) just to feel a little safe. It was then I realized that there are no external security cameras on campus that I could find. Off campus parties were too often and too dangerous. Jocks all pumped up starting fights and throwing rocks. RAs would be at the Dark Horse bar with us at night and turned a blind eye to the unlimited amount of alcohol in the dorms ("Just don't get caught"). I'm sure part of the tuition is going to the pounds and pounds of kitty litter used every night to clean up vomit. Take a look at the large blood stain outside Moffett right now where a kid busted his face open falling down last week. While I like to have fun, go out late and have no problem with responsible drinking, there's not enough governance. Now I know why we read and interpreted Lord of the Flies in high school! I withdrew last week and will be started late fall session at local 4 yr university on Oct 6th.

The good? My roommates were great (even though we were a forced triple) and the professors/classes were very good. Too bad everything else was so unsafe.
