I graduated 25+ years ago and our complaintsBusiness - Management and Administration
I graduated 25+ years ago and our complaints then were identical, for the most part, to what I am reading here. The fact of the matter is this: IF you graduate and IF you go into the industry (these are two big IF's) then Maritime is an outstanding school to be from. I was a typical cadet in the mid-80's, I had average grades, a lot of demerits, I spent most of my time getting drunk, chasing skirts and hating every minute I was there. I had eight room mates in my eight semesters, none of whom graduated with me. That being said, my classmates and I are now in our late forties and many of us are now captains, chief engineers, senior level executives, etc. I have run into class mates and alumi in all for corners of the earth and, although it pains me to say this, Schuyler had a profound positive impact on me professionally. The marine industry can be very lucrative and graduation from Maritime offers you entree into the club. The trick is to make it to graduation.

Let me just say that maritime is notBrightOther
Let me just say that maritime is not for everyone. It is not a typical college experience, don't expect it to be. Location in NYC is decent (45min) and its in one of the nicest areas of the Bronx.Don't come here just for the opportunities after. You have to at least like what your doing or else it will be a miserable 4 years. This can be a slightly frustrating place at times but I'm overall happy with my choice in the end.

I was hired three weeks out the doorOther
I was hired three weeks out the door when the ink was barely dry on my license. The staff at the college were extremely helpful, the training both in the classroom and aboard the training ship were invaluable. I was able to see the world as a Cadet on the ship while putting all of my leadership training and practical hands on training to use. Was it worth it? I walked out the door into a $100,000 a year job, with a salary that only goes up from there. GREAT SCHOOL.
