Welcome to the SUNY Maritime school. Our curriculum consists of being on boats for long periods of time with men, just men, for many days at a time. Up on the deck with lots of men, or down in the galley with lots of men. This is a terrible school. It is one of the worst schools in the SUNY system for good reason. Parents send their children here to make them feel "special". The bottom line is that jocks go here to feel like they are big and in the military when they are really just psuedo butt pirates. The faculty is unhelpful and extremely self centered. Not to mention, the food is disgusting!

100% employment within three months of graduation and at starting salaries among the highest in the nation. This school offers an excellent education. Approximately 10% of the students are civilian and 90% in the regiment. For most students the training parallels the service academies although far from is difficult or strict as the military academies. Most students wear uniforms and a required to pass a physical regime including times push-ups, situps and a mile and I have run. The faculty dress and act like professionals and treat the cadets with respect. They are always there to assist you as long as you requested it. The campus is a 56 acre peninsula jutting out at the confluence of the East River and the Long Island sound. It is a beautiful well-maintained waterfront campus with fantastic views. Cadets are inspected frequently and have cleaning duties in the evening. They are also assigned watches both on the ship and in the dorms. Most students graduate with over 160 credits. Each May they sail on the freighter Empire State to at least 4 foreign ports. They check takes two months and covers over 10,000 miles. Televisions are a rarity. It is a school where students get a fantastic education but you can expect to work hard. The teaches are excellent, friendly and helpful but set high standards and maintain them. It is not for everybody and definitely not a party school. It is a small school where everybody knows each other and the faculty and there is a close and deep bond between students.
Education Quality: A+, Social Life: C-
