esf was one of the worst experiences of my life! first off they did not have enough dorm rooms so housed me in the sheraton hotel, sounds great unless you have crazy roommates like i did and did not recieve any help from the school. My roommate would drink, smoke, and vandalize my property and no administration or staff would help me. My options were to pay more money or move off campus in a house alone with no furniture. Beware, if you ever need help for problems your experiencing you will not get it!

I graduated from ESF with a BS in Wildlife Science. ESF is a very specialized school and if you want to go into environmental biology, forestry, or related fields this school is the right one for you. The diversity of classes I was offered was amazing and they were taught by high quality, innovative professors. Most professors would go above and beyond to help students (with the exception of several... but every school has that). Another huge plus academically is the amount of lab and field work. ESF has such a large campus with so many research stations around NY that it is almost impossible to not get involved in research. Because of this I was extreamly prepared when I graduated for either grad school or a job.

The campus life was also great. The school provides activities for students ranging from organizations such as the wildlife society to the outdoor club (which always has some climbing or backpacking trip planned almost every weekend) to TGIF socials (where a student lounge is converted into a bar and students over 21 get free beer). Even without the activities the college provides there is always something to do. There is not to large of a greek life, but people are always coming up with new trips and parties so it's never dull. When you first come to the college the staff will tell you that a ESF student works hard but plays harder :) The academics are definitly challanging but you will come out prepared. And despite the amount of work you do as a student, almost all students also figure out to have just as much play. Within a year of graduating I recieved my dream job (being a zookeeper).

I was a biotech major but not interested in being stuck in a lab all day. I had a great internship where I was outside part of the time so I ended up getting a job with them. Turned out great. Good school, very difficult courses, and great faculty.

Going to ESF was a waste of my money and time. I was told it was a great school yet as a female, I was treated in such that my getting my money's worth of education was not warranted! I was not allowed to take important classes that I really needed to get into a great position. Therefore, no one is hiring me because I was only allowed to take basically-basket weaving of my field classes! My major was a MPS in Construction Management. Yet I was not allowed to take the classes that I needed. I have heard comments from interviewers like-you missed the most important classes. I did not miss them-I was not allowed to take them because of one teacher's petty ego! This school should give me a refund because of what I was put through by one if it's teachers and the lame department head who was in charge when I was in school. I could have gone to Onondaga and gotten a degree in Architectural Tech. I bet I would be in a job now. But because of my high educational background, they talked me into going to ESF to get a MPS in Construction Management. Yet I am still missing the important classes because of one guy! I was misled by my advisor and this one teacher would not make an exception for me. I would have had to come back for probably another years of classes because of this teacher. Considering I was driving daily from Utica, I was not going to do that. Also, I already paid for my classes. Why did I have to drop out so late because of this one teacher? I know why he did what he did. He knows why. My advisor knows why and the weak department head at the time knew why. Let's face it. If they were not so short of good teachers in that department, I would have graduated when I was supposed to with the classes I needed to have a great education. But they do not have enought teachers and you have at least one who abuses his rights of his job to give students a hard time. He cares for no one except his own ego and the school is letting him do it! I do feel I am owed a refund or at least the right to come back and take the courses I am missing to supplant my education and make it a better one. I cannot help but feel bitter towards this school for how I was treated by this teacher and how your school let him act the way he wants just because you are short of teachers! I cannot ever tell anyone to go to this school and get an education because I am proof of how they treat women in a field like Construction Management. That teacher should have been fired. But I bet he was not even talked to because of the shortage of teachers.
