I went to Oswego my Freshmen year. It was a culture shock to me. I am from Long Island and like many SUNY schools a lot of people from LI attend SUNY Oswego. However many northern New Yorkers attend this school more than most SUNY schools. I would say at least fifty percent of the students that I encounter were from Rockchester. I found them to be very distasteful and close minded. They found Oswego to be fun and exciting. While most long islanders would call it a run down town, full of drunks and rusty cars. There is absolutely nothing in the town but bars and a movie theater (with only four theaters). The only commercial restaurant is Ruby Tuesdays. Most of the other restaurants are family owned and operated aka unclean and doesn't accept credit cards. The campus life is very country compared to LI. The northern new yorkers thought of Oswego as urban which obviously, says enough in and of itself. Oswego is for the average student. The professors make you well aware of how average you are. Many teach at Syracuse and will compare SUNY Oswego students to the Syracuse students (none of which is positive). The only positive thing about Oswego is that class sizes are relatively small and personal. I found most of my professors to be friendly and easy going. However the rest of the staff is unorganized through out the campus. When I requested for transcripts to be sent out they lost the request form twice. Which resulted in me being wait listed for better universities that I wouldn't have been if they had not lost my papers. If you plan to attend Oswego. I hope you like to drink because thats about all there is to do for fun (and if you like to dance, forget about that there is only two bars with a dance floors and they are GROSS!). -Good Luck!

do not go here. this school glorifies mediocrity. go here only if you want to remain jobless. degrees from oswego virtually work against you especially if you are an education major. graduate programs will do you no good here considering there less than 50% placement rates students here are less than intelligent not a school based on academics rather ease of admittance . a haven for losers. period.

Public Justice is plain and simply a retarded major. I didn't need the degree to get a law enforcement job, and it seems to confuse potential employers. I am going back for an associates in medical technology so I can actually make some money. Business and Education programs seem fine, but those fuckers gave me a diploma that is useless unless I want to be a lawyer or spend a year or two taking all the prerequisites I would need to get into a masters in another field
