| Average | The English dept is in rough shape. The professors are pompous know it alls. The students are even worse. Snobs, although I'm not sure why since they are attending a really crappy school and worse than that they are MAJORING IN ENGLISH, not exactly something to brag about. | Surrounding City: A, Education Quality: F | | | |

Buffalo State College lets say is a special place. Honestly the academics aren't that challenging. Personally I think the professors give you pointless busy work. Unfornately in every college you have bad and good professors but this school definately does not have the best.
Socially the schools is a lot better but that's is not why you should attend any school for that matter. After a while you will notice that you are paying for CRAP. Most parties are located off campus and downtown, which is only 20 mins a way by bus. Most of the organizations here are not that friendly , it's weird... Honestly I think SOME of the people in this school are close minded and still stuck in that "high school mentality. There is barely any interaction between races and most of the girls are snotty. The guys honestly aren't that bad. Advice: As an African American female , I do appreciate the diversity but still thinks this campus sucks!!! Attend another SUNY school!!! This school is not worth it honestly!!! The school has nothing to offer. The food is bad the dorms look like projects and the academics aren't challenging. What more can I say? | Useful Schoolwork: A+, Collaboration/Competitive: F

First off, this is NOT UB. University at Buffalo is the other SUNY school in Buffalo, they're a University Center reknowned for pre-med and engineering.
Buffalo State College is located on Elmwood Ave. in the "museum district." The surrounding area is extremely hit and miss. You're right next to some of the nicest and trashiest parts of the city.
One thing to understand is that Buffalo State is a HUGE commuter school. There are few residents, and those who are are typically from Syracuse or Long Island/NYC metro area. This makes the social life going down, but only for certain types of people. If you're typically outgoing and looking to have fun, you'll find people to hang out with.. but if you were the artsy kid in high school, or the weird kid...it's going to suck. I'd say the academics are so-so, some programs are said to be really good (namely, education and art.) However, if you're interested in these majors I reccomend SUNY Oneonta for education and SUNY New Paltz, Purchase, or Fredonia for art. The programs are just better. Buff State sort of feels like a junior college, in that most kids don't really want to be doing schoolwork, and the work, frankly, is not hard at all. So, if you're looking for an easy college experience, I reccomend it. If you're looking to get into a good grad school, go somewhere else. | Faculty Accessibility: A, Social Life: F
