This school is a joke. You get no help when asking questions about financial aid or work study you just get the run around and will be in five different offices and waste an entire day only to go back to the office you originally started at. Upper administration is terrible and are unapproachable as they just want your money, don't care if you succeed or not. I went here to play hockey and had a great experience my freshman year which I would rate an A in experience under a great coach only to show up my sophmore year to a meeting that they were replacing him and it was time for a perssonel change. I had such a bad experience this year under a coach who didn't know his ass from his elbow and didn't care about the players that I quit the sport I loved for the first time in my life and now am looking to transfer out to a better school because the school obviously didn't care about its students or they would have kept the coach that was successful. The dorm life is horrible you pay to be in a room with two beds and they stuff you in a triple and watch kids from the city deal drugs and smoke weed in front of you while you try and sleep. Had over $300 bucks stolen from me this year and the keystone cops they call university police couldn't figure out who stole it even with secruity camera's. The faculty teaches in an old school and half of my classes are online just so I don't have to deal with the terrible professors here. All I can do is say thank you to those administrators and their poor decisions that made me hate the college and led me to have such a terrible athletic and student experience this year. My advice is if you are from out of state and have to travel several hours or across the country don't bother because they don't care about you as you are just an paycheck for them.

SUNY Canton. If you're looking for a fun college experience look elsewhere. If you're a local commuter then this is a good place to go. SUNY Canton is extremely boring especially the second semester when half of your friends won't return and it is -3 out. In the beginning it is exciting and fun with a packed campus as the year goes on it gets quieter and empty. Cliques formed fast and all the local kids just hang out with people they went to high school with, so it is hard sometimes to make friends. The town of Canton has one crappy "club" called Tik Tok, which is std ridden and filled with preppy douchebags from SLU who hate Canton kids. Other than that there is a Mcdonalds and gas station. Walking to town is a hike and don't go alone especially if you're a girl, people have been jumped on the path. College kids typically complain about being bored but after going to this school you will never again. I am writing this on a friday night in my room because there is nothing to do. To have any sort of fun you must at least need to have a friend with a car, which also means you might only have friends because of your car. There are barely any clubs or on campus activities. Everything closes on the weekends. The frat parties are extremely lame 80% of the people at the parties are guys and probably 2% of the females don't look like farm animals. The campus is depressing and ghetto on the weekends. Most of the people living on campus are black city people, they are mostly friendly but you got your thugs. I can see how they can be intimidating if you're from farms but they are mostly jet loud. The school is pretty safe, just don't run your mouth and be stupid. Like any college, there is theft. Most the teachers are helpful and fair. The faculty is helpful especially accommodative services and TRIO. Chaney Dining Hall is awful, some nights it is ok but if you like to eat dinner later at like 7 or 8 or lunch around 2 or later, then your stuck with crappy quesadillas and rubber tasting hamburgers. If you're looking for a fun college experience DON'T GO HERE. Happily i have four miserable months left.

Quite Bright
Let me tell you about SUNY Canton. I spent one whole semester there, before transferring out. I was enrolled in the Funeral Service Administration program initially, but when I got to the school, I found that it was NOT accredited. Though the school did gain its accreditation back, a majority of the students had never been made aware that this was an issue for the school. The head of the program was a first year teacher, with no experience in being in an academic teaching position, and was too full of himself to be of any use to the students, not to mention to be qualified to head a whole department.

The campus itself is located in the North Country of New York, which is a beautiful area. However, the campus is far, far, far away from anything that holds appeal in this type of setting, like hiking trails, and there is no public transportation in the area. I never wanted to walk anywhere, because I never felt safe on the campus. The student population is made up of people you would rather not want to run into at night, and the campus has a colourful history of student violence. This is because almost anyone with a pulse is accepted into SUNY Canton, so do not expect to be surrounded by the best and brightest.

The school is relatively small, yet somehow has a growing student population, to the point where dorms are overcrowded (single rooms were converted to doubles, and the school even went so far as to ask apartment complexes and rental houses in town to house the students, and offered free tuition to students who were close enough to commute, if they dropped their housing and lived at home) and the student to teacher ratio was not what you would expect for a smaller school.

The buildings and grounds are the furthest thing from state-of-the-art that you can imagine. Don't expect an old fashioned feel either, most of the school was built in the middle of the 1900s, and is best described as ugly. The newest buildings are the gym and the Grasse River Suites, which aren't bad at all. Most of the school's money went into these buildings, and they came out very nicely. Most of the academic facilities, however, are out of date, poorly maintained, and simply offensive to look at.

As for the social life at Canton, I suggest you join a sport, or the Marines, if you want social activity. The town of Canton is about a square mile of nothing, though there is a bar or a club of some sorts called the Tick Tock. Do not go there. It is shady. I was on a sports team, which kept me busy, and I got to go to events with the team when we traveled to compete, but that was about it. When I tell you that there is nothing to do here, I am not exaggerating in the slightest. Some people living off campus host parties occasionally, but you'll need to be brave enough to walk across the campus at night to get to town. (You'll have to cross two foot bridges over a river, and go through some forest. I'm not kidding. If you're a female, bring at least two male friends you trust, girls have gotten raped here.) All in all, my best advice to you is that if someone tells you to enroll at SUNY Canton, to punch them promptly in the teeth. No matter who you are, you can do better than here.
