I wouldn't advise someone to attend Wells if they are not comfortable with a rural area. The college itself doesn't have much around it--you make your own entertainment. You have to go on van runs to Ithaca if you want something different to do. It's an overall warm and cozy community. Sometimes, it can be a little too small. The academics are challenging but not so much that you can't have a social life. The dorms are great. Most of the Professors are pretty darn good. It's the people, traditions and atmosphere that really makes Wells what it is. Visit. If you like it, you'll know. It's a great school but it doesn't fit everyone's needs. (No college does.)

It negative points:

Rural location
Size
Newly co-ed, things are changing.
A few more fields of study would be nice
Positive points:
Size
Professors--they're accessable
People
Overall sense of community
Dorms
Beautiful Lake view
Having Ithaca nearby (an awesome city) Exchange with Cornell
Faculty Accessibility: A+, Surrounding City: C-

Wells provides the atmosphere where its students can truly grow and learn, it does not merely turn out mindless drones which recycle information. Students are encouraged to do individual, original research and try new things. The liberal arts education is truly embraced. Faculty make an effort to make each student's experience at Wells one that is unique to that student. They do not merely reuse course material each semester, but tailor the course to each individual class. Students are not just a number, but known to faculty, staff, and administration by name. Strong community and personal interaction are two descriptions which perfectly illustrate Wells, and I might add set Wells apart from most other institutions.

Not so bright
If you are coming to this college STRICTLY for academics, then this is the place for you. The classes are so small that the teacher has your cell phone number, room address, both emails and what your favorite hobby is. However, this university is a 20 to 30 minute drive to any resource such as walmart. And the school spiked its tuition rate 40% for all incoming students. So weigh your odds. I'm a male who came here for a great education and the chance to start a new athletic program but in the end got really bored.
