The Art Academy of Cincinnati is a complete joke. Looking back on my years spent “learning” graphic design I cringe at the money it cost to attend. The AAC taught me nothing in terms of industry standard programs that I would use in my daily life, professional practice instruction, or even how to attend an interview and present my work. I have been out of school 7 years now and have come to the realization that graphic design sucks and the student loans I accrued while attending the AAC are bankrupting me, so I have decided to throw them into deferment and get my doctorate in Psychology where I will actually learn something and make money once I am out of college. I really regret all of the time and money I wasted at the AAC and wish I could wipe the slate clean, but you live and learn. My wife recently asked me if I would pay for my children’s college, once we have some, and I told her I would as long as they go into a profession where they can make a living and not live like they are on welfare for half their lives trying to pay down student loans from a worthless college. If I have any advice for prospective students it would be go far far away from the AAC. If you have to learn graphic design go to either New York or San Francisco where there are booming markets. The AAC may seem like a dream, but you pay lots of money for little-to-no education and now that the college is in Over-the-Rhine (Crack Alley) you will probably get stabbed at some point in your academic life.

This school,is very closedminded and despite the large number of communications arts students (graphic design or VCD, illustration, and photography) this field is almost entirely ignored or viewed unrealistically. Emphasis is not on gained employment post-school but on creating avant-garde fine art that confuses and insults the public. Internships are non-existent and if the students wishes to have one they must make their own connections. Technology at this school is a disaster. Printers are always down, or working at low quality, the technology assistant is insulting and condescending, and the school is still not wired after it's third year in the new building! I'm a good student who works very hard, yet I wonder if I'd have been better off going to another school. I wanted fine arts to influence my work, not smother it.

you pretty much can use any kind of medium here so long you know how to use it. you can walk into classes being taught with out anyone caring. at times you get busywork but the school is very student directed. i mean it is an art school. your kind of taught to look at other students works and get advise from them but the faculty.
