HILE successful applicants to the College are all different, they share a number of common characteristics. A high level of accomplishment in academics distinguishes the members of each entering class. They are bright, inquisitive, well-informed individuals who have marked themselves as achievers in their schools and communities.

Most have taken Advanced Placement or honors courses in two or more subjects; many have further demonstrated their talents in pursuits ranging from the arts to athletics.  A significant number have devoted time to community service, achieving leadership roles in all sorts of activities.  In short, they are people whose talent and motivation have led to success in a variety of arenas.

The quality of a student's education can be strongly affected by other students.  In addition to selecting students with strong intellectual ability, the admissions committee strives to bring together an interesting, whose backgrounds, experiences, values, talents, and aspirations will contribute to creating a stimulating, diverse student community.

Because the College values its small size and residential character, each entering class is limited to approximately four hundred thirty students, creating a highly competitive admissions environment and necessitating some difficult decisions for the admissions committee.  However, the committee makes each decision fairly and sensitively, with a full appreciation for the person behind the application.
