I consider myself extremely fortunate to attend such a great university. I am majoring in biomedical engineering and even though the department is new and very small it is still amazing. The professors are extremely apprachable and personable. However, it is up to you to make appointements to meet these people. If you show that you are motivated and interested, professors will go out of their way to help you. I also landed a research position in my freshman year. My advice is to meet with every professor you have at least once and get to know them on a personal level. There is much you can learn from these brilliant people. Also, become involved in a variety of clubs upon arriving freshman year. It will be instrumental in allowing you to make friends. Be sure to take risks and try something completely new and bizarre.

There is some truth to the stereotype of the Miami student being rich and snobbish. However, if you become involved and outgoing, you will find your niche as there are plenty of perfectly respectable people on campus. I recommend living in the music living learning community if you want to ensure you are not living in with stereotypical miami people. I believe they are generally the nicest and most fun. Basically, you're college experience is what you make of it. I have seen so many students who don't make the effort to get involved and seek help when they need it. All they do is complain about how they hate it here when it is really their fault since they do not have the right mind-set. However, those who do take the initiative to become involved and seek help when needed love it here. I myself feel quite at home at Miami.

Miami is an amazing place with opportunities for every student. The only suggestion I have is to be open minded about your major. I went in with a "plan" and ended up changing it in my Junior year. I did not get to explore many of the awesome classes that are offered because I was so focused. There are many stereotypes about what a Miami student is, but don't let it fool you. There truly is a place for you in Oxford!

Great school, especially for business majors. Check out business week's rankings--Miami is rated #4 OVERALL by recruiters for producing the best college graduates. #4 including ivy leagues...that's a very impressive ranking. I leave this university having a job offer, in this terrible economy, since the fall before my graduation. This is absolutely a result of the reputation of this school.
