I graduated 33 years ago and I'll speak to Oberlin and the job market. Oberlin offers a great liberal arts education, but lots of opportunity to groom yourself for the job market should you choose to take advantage of it. Oberlin's "winter term" is basically the month of January that you use for independent projects or experiences. I used all of mine for things like language study and internships, and consequently landed a decent job in enviro science right out of college. I also took a year off between sophomore and junior year to do other internships, which helped. A degree from a liberal arts college does NOT have to be synonymous with "unemployable". My degree was in biology and almost every job I've ever gotten since Oberlin was offered to me in part because of my biology degree - including elementary ed teacher and now English professor. (they felt my science background would be helpful in teaching interdisciplinary writing classes and it made me unique from other wanna-be English teachers.

Oberlin is a very high quality school, butQuite BrightMusic - Performance
Oberlin is a very high quality school, but speaking in terms of my time there- the Conservatory is truly wonderful. I won't lie, when I was there, the courses were hard, we worked a lot and you're held to a very high standard of work. Once I graduated and went into the "real world" I realized how valuable all my time there was. Oberlin has a good reputation and wherever I went, that name on my resume never failed to impress potential employers and colleagues. The Alumni network is phenomenal and being an Obie connects people in a way that is just amazing. Everywhere I go, I meet Obies and we instantly become friends! Some of the best years of my life. I will have to say that if I was entering college now, the rising tuition at Oberlin would definitely impact my decision, so best of luck for those scholarships.

Over the course of a distinguished, international, academicQuite BrightReligion/Religious
Over the course of a distinguished, international, academic career, I've had the chance to work with students from Oxford, Cambridge, Princeton, Cornell, Harvard, Columbia, Yale, and other great universities. I could have gone to Wesleyan, Brown, or Kenyon, and chose Oberlin. Oberlin was then and remains an extraordinarily stimulating intellectual environment, full of musical excellence and artistic accomplishment, and first-rate in the sciences. I'm proud to be an Oberlin graduate. I represent Oberlin now as an alumni admissions rep.
