UA's MSW program is convenient if someone worksMay 15 2019Social Work
UA's MSW program is convenient if someone works full-time and wants to get an advanced degree done quickly and at an affordable price. Problems include: 1) sub-par instruction (be prepared for adjunct instructors who may/may not be available to students; give little to no feedback on assignments or even respond to their e-mails) and 2) administrators who rarely advocate for students. Because of limited staffing, it's not uncommon to have the same teachers for multiple courses and who also serve as field liaisons or even field supervisors. Conflicts of interest can arise, which the administration acknowledges, but does nothing to fix. This is a program that excels at getting students in the door, but once there, leaves them to fend for themselves.
I have been studying at U Akron for 2Sep 27 2011Business - Management and Administration
I have been studying at U Akron for 2.5 years. I was forced to take too many redundant courses although I have taken them in my undergraduate degree. The master of science in information systems management MSM is not practical and supportive to help me get the sufficient knowledge. The program consists of a few information systems-focused courses. This is because that the BC lacks the sufficient number of professors to tach this program. If you think of studying Master of Science in IS don't study here because you will waste your time. The BC changed the plans for the master programs, including MS in IS, and forced the current students to take some courses in the new plans.
Its a great universityJun 20 2004Computer Science
Its a great university. Akron is a good city in itself. The university is well maintained and the people are very friendly and helpful. The university is spending over billions of dollars in renovation of the existing buildings and construction of new buildings.

Safty wise i strongly recommend this university. security guards accompany you to your parking lots late at nights on request. So students can feel safe and never worry on that regard. A lot of construction work is going on at the moment and they say it would be completed before sept 2004. My cousin is also joining the same university this fall. So all of you out there, if you are ever thinking about joining UA, stop thinking just get in. You'll love the whole experiance just like i did. Good luck! cheers

I really regret choosing the University of AkronJul 11 2003Geography and Geosciences
I really regret choosing the University of Akron for graduate work. The university has 2 computer labs with like, 10 computers in them, which you can never use. The computers at the library are usually broken. I tried to use the ZIPlink library electronic card catalog yesterday and all 3 terminals were inoperable. It took me 20 minutes to look up the call number of a book.

I have been going back and forth between Kent State and the public library to do my research, but it is really a pain in the ass, and a deplorable situation. Other students I know go to libraries in Cleveland or wherever they can. The attitude of the University is that everything is great! and the administration is patting each other on the back for what a great job the are claiming to have done.... meanwhile, I can't even make a f*cking photocopy of a periodical because all of the copy machines in the library are f*cking BROKEN!

If I would have known it would be like this, I wouldn't have considered coming here, but who can know that the state of things at a research university could be this bad?

The attitude in my department of faculty members is better, but at times I feel like I'm on a sinking ship. It seems there is a hiring freeze, yet faculty are retiring and not being replaced. I am LITERALLY registered for 3 courses with the same adjunct teacher because THAT IS WHAT IS OFFERED. I do not recommend to anyone to come to the University of Akron. It will be a catastrophic waste of your time. Go anywhere else but here.
