College has never hurt anyone, except the parentsTelecommunications
College has never hurt anyone, except the parents that have to pay the tuition. There are people that walk away from college with a degree in liberal studies or general studies after 5 years, thats just a waste of money. OSU has very good programs and I do agree CS and MIS departments have to do a better job at keeping up with the rest of the world. Times have changed since I was in school and things have gotten a lot better now. It can only get better.

OK State is a party school, so pressureBrightPublic Health
OK State is a party school, so pressure to drink is high. If your not 21 you will not have a social life, unless you are Greek. Greeks and non-greeks do not get along. Greeks put themselves above the non-greeks by being snooty, judging, and separating themselves completely from the non-greek population. OK State focuses on Greek life, football, and men's basketball. The Academic point of view you need to have a 3.5 or more because of the competitiveness. The Greeks have high GPA's because they will take the same classes and give old work to the ones going to take it. They get away with this with a cover up "study hours" which is a joke in the Greek system. This undermines my beliefs of working hard for what you receive in grades because they get it handed to them on a silver plater. Financial Aid the only way for them to give you any resourceful information is to yell at them at least once a week and eventually they will be tired of you doing this and will give you the information you need. From my experience if you are not Greek please do not come here, financial aid work them down to get the info you need, drinking is the social scene if not Greek and academics be extremely competitive. I am transferring to another school when I can bump my GPA up a . something. I just want to add that I loved the sports here and even though I will be leaving soon that is the only thing I will miss and I will continue to support the OSU Cowboys in their sports efforts.

I am majoring in Management Information Systems.BrightSchool of Information
I am majoring in Management Information Systems. I will graduating after I finish this one last class. I have never operated a server, or a router. I have no knowledge of SAS or Oracle. I do have a hyper-generalized idea of Mangement Information Systems though.

I wish the computer programming department would get past the 1960's (i.e. we are taught to program with vi as an editor) this is probably due to tenured faculty in their 60's. However, they will help you to no end if you go during office hours with well directed problems to solve.

Also, we never have those classes where you have to debate and support your thoughts (except for business law). There are no real world case studies (which I love). It is like you get a lot of equations (standard deviation, EVA, signal to noise ratio etc.), but the big picture is not discussed. Things like globalization, business culture, news that is class related are not discussed. I have this ungrounded feeling. I have this degree, but I don't feel like I know anything. I have all my books, I review them from time to time, but it seems like this has all been a game. That this is some scholastic fiction, a behavioral conditioning so that I can be put in some box and do what I am told (this is probably more me because none of the other students seem to say anything correlating to this - I don't know). Anyway, I'm graduating....
