Been out of school for about 4 years, I was absolutely stunned and amazed by how I was treated when I first walked in the registration office to apply as a new student. I had seen smiley faces everywhere; faculties and staff members were welcoming, and the atmosphere is very comfortable to be in. Professors are very helpful and are willing to make you succeed; most people there are also friendly. Although there are not a lot of interesting places around, but it's a great place for those who are eager to learn. It is located at a suburban area, so it's really not that bad; trees are everywhere, and it's beautiful during summer time! in contrary to other community colleges, CCC offers a lot of free parking spaces, so you would not miss any; though many students try to get to closer parking spots to their classrooms, but I can guarantee you 100% that u would find one not too far from yours. Several programs are also available, and it's easy to register for any classes. You would not regret anything once you become a student and go on to graduate! The music department is well funded but in order to take music theory, you have to learn how to play piano--nevermind how you're able to play violin or trombone with a tremendous amount of skill and knowledge of music, you NEED to learn how to play piano in order to learn music theory. I don't plan on ever being a concert pianist, so why should I even bother? Aside from that, the other music-related facilities and classes are very good, and the teachers are generally helpful but usually like to place their priorities infront of a student who's paying $200+ for that one particular class. When it comes to writing classes, math classes, etc. it is a bit of a different story. A lot of the work is nothing more than pointless busywork and you end up questioning why you even wasted your time, money, and effort on that particular class when you learned almost nothing. The social scene is a joke. The same people who used to make "gay jokes" every 5 seconds in high school are pooled together here. If you had trouble tolerating these idiots then, you'll have no different experience here. A majority of people in a few of my classes are snooty and would spit in your face if you tried to make friends with them. The campus itself is questionable. You walk into one of the buildings and it's in tip-top shape. Then you exit and walk to the neighboring building and it's a wreck. One of my writing classes is in one building where I have to walk through a hallway that reeks of piss. Not surprisingly, it's the same building where all the PE classes are. "Campus Safety" is laughable. Sure, if your car is broken down or you locked your keys inside, they'll give you a hand. When they're not on-duty they're running stop signs and speeding--the same things they get penalize students for. Although it's not part of the school, the bookstore is awful (the bookstore is run by different people). The people behind the counter at the bookstore are arrogant, condescending, and make you wish that violence was legal in Oregon. They mistakingly charged me $60 for a book I didn't even buy and they refused to give me back my money for their mistake. I had to stoop to nearly threatening them before I got my money back. All in all, the education is really equal to any university or other college that requires you to waste tens of thousands each year. With CCC, you only pay perhaps $1,500 a term and you get a very good education (depending on what classes you're taking. Some classes really help you out, some are just passive). My advice would be only attend this school if you want some transfer credits or you want a good education in music, art, etc. The school is best enjoyed when you get to your class, learn, then hurry home when it's over. My teachers in the nursing program are great and very supportive but if you need to register or pay tuition- watch out!! They are consistently rude and unprofessional.
