I chose this school because of the smaller classroom size, I was afraid I would find myself lost and helpless at a large institution. I have found the faculty very accessible, and always willing to give up time to answer questions. There are multiple resources available for aid in any subject a student may need. Downtown Salem is fun to explore during the day, and the bus and train stations are near by if you desire to travel more than walking distance. The students here are very supportive of each other and good at collaborating, there is not much competition placed on grades. There are lots of fun activities to do on campus, you just have to be on the lookout to get involved. I haven't met anybody who is truly unhappy here :)

I did two degrees at Willamette - actually came back for the second based on the quality of my education the first time. For my BA, I had transfered in from another larger institution based on student recommendations. I was impressed with how the professors went out of their way to make sure I was not part of a large herd. Yes, not much to do in Salem itself, but campus life offers so many opportunities to do things that I didn't really find that to be an issue. The Willamette Valley offers a lot to do on weekends so overall, it's hard to get bored.

As a minority student, I could only take one year at this school. They hand out many academic and minority and sports schoalrships because they have trouble attracting students otherwise. The campus is well kept and resides on one big block. By the second semester you start to see the same people all the time. Unless you play sports, as a minority you are likely to fill isolated. Salem is the crack capital of Oregon and most students remain in the WU bubble, for lack of fun elsewhere and safety. Many students are from small towns in Oregon.
