I am a little bit shocked on how people are talking about Albright College. When I went there in the early nineties it was considered a very good college and my opinion has not changed. It is a small school and you have to get involved in order to be happy there. I did and became a CPA because of the quality of the education I received. Am I unhappy they lowered their standards? Yes, but I believe with increasing enrollment and the new president Lex McMillan from Gettysburg College, it will become a very competitive college again.

I am SO sorry that I chose this school. So sorry. I loved it when I went for the campus tour because the place is very pretty and my tour guides were really nice, but when I actually started coming here, I saw it for what it really is: terrible. Not only are the dorms maintained poorly, but a lot of the students IN them are rude, loud, or always drunk. The RA's are useless. They either do nothing at all to enforce the rules or just hang out with the kids in the dorm. There's almost no security around campus, and it's not a good place where such can be afforded. The cafeteria food is terrible, to the point where a lot of people just don't go anymore. Don't expect many nice people, because this place is just as clique-oriented as high school, only with less maturity. And, while some people think that they cater oh-so-much more to black students, it's not really true. I AM one, and trust me, the financial aid office is no help to anybody. They take forever to update their payment records and then decide to send you bills for their own incompetence.

While I wouldn't trade the experiences I've had here for anything, there were lots of things that could be better. The worst aspect of the college, however, is housing. The dorms are adequate, but the college owned apartments are appalling. They were built as temporary 10-year housing in the early 80's. They are still being used. They are in advanced stages of disrepair, and almost none of the locks to the buildings operate correctly. Also, the security here is a joke. There is nothing secure here. There are no privacy rights at this college. The gathering and alcohol policies are ridiculous and ineffective, however, they enforce these with a vengeance. They spend weekends looking to write up students for having parties while there are assaults and rapes on campus property. Also, there in insufficient parking for students. Since Reading, PA has one of the highest violent crime rates per capita in the nation, there should be more protected parking areas. There were no less than 15 occurrences of car break-ins this past fall alone. Don't come here if you want "the college experience."
