The people that you meet at Allegheny are for the most part great individuals. I would not go back to this college because of the finical aid department. This one department has ruined my experiences here. They are extremely unhelpful. Do not seem to care about you as a person; and they act like you are bothering them when you have a question about your finical statement. On top of this they have messed up my fasfa and are not helpful in any manner.

I felt as though the faculty, and program itself, was of great quality. Though, this should not be the only factor in determining where you apply. Allegheny College was completely lacking of the "college" aspect. Activities on campus alternated between studying all night on weekdays, and binge drinking on weekends. Partying was simply for underclassmen to spend $5 on unlimited booze. While there were stand up comedians once a month, there was very little to do on a weekend for a person like me who preferred not being hung over every Sunday morning. The people aren't much better. Though I had a good hall and some high school friends, much of the 2000 person campus has this false sense of superiority, since Allegheny is a competitive school. My physics case study was spent listening to my partner describe how much better he was than the teacher. He ended up failing the class. It's also the same feel as high school. Even though the classes are 20-30 people, it's 20-30 people who refuse to associate with someone who isn't in their "clique". Sorry for the essay, but it needed to be said. If you want a college that will stress you for four years and look decent on a degree, don't hesitate to enroll. But, if you are one of the people who wants college to be the best four years of their life, skip this option. Thanks to my hasty enrollment, I have already thrown two of mine away, and wouldn't wish that upon anybody else.

The English Writing department is overseen by Christopher Bakken. He is the most condescending and pompous man in the world. I don't recommend attempting the writing track with him unless you're masochistic. He will also blow you off if he feels(or wants to pretend) that you are upset. Apparently being upset is grounds for cutting off all communication with a student. I doubt Allegheny campus supports this.

The classes in the Dance department are really nice, as are the professors over there. Don't live in Brooks. It is falling apart all the time. The bathrooms are always nasty and the housekeeping staff NEVER seem to clean it appropriately(or maybe girls are just excessively gross).
