To start things off bloomsburg is a small town. The downtown area(where the majority of students go for food or the bars) is pretty lively day and night) The campus itself is decent you CAN constitute your expenses here at bloomsburg with faculty, campus scenery etc. for the cost to go to school here annually i do believe you are getting a decent value. Now if your looking for the ivy-covered, romanesque period architecture this is not your campus. IF beauty is a top priority this is not your campus. Again the annual cost here does reflect what you get for your money. The students here are pretty stand offish. They could care less about getting to know someone else. It may take a lot more to make friends. You need to be more outgoing than usual, be involved more than you normally would, and participate in everything you can get your hands on. I do believe they let pretty much anyone get in here. Im confident in the fact that no one would disagree with me if i said that around 40-50% of the students here don't make it past their freshman year.

I am currently attending Bloomsburg University as both an accounting and finance major. I am in my senoir year and transferred in with 60 credits (thus starting out as a junior). I have spent 3 years at the university due to the double major and have had a wide range of good and bad experiences. To start, the campus itself is small, but comforting. It's pleasant, with some greenery and a nice quad. The campus is on one big hill, so it's an upward/downward walk as you traverse campus. The town itself is disappointing. There is an excessive amount of drinking and partying. I cannot attest to the drug portion. I am not much of a drinker or partyer, though I did try the drinking/partying scene initially. I did ont enjoy it, and therefore did not have much to do on the weekends. For the faculty and staff, the accounting department is great. The professors that I've had (Law, Robson, Staley, Rude, Hwang) are quite knowledgable in their fields. They have real-world experience and are eager to bring that to the classroom. However, the finance department seems to be lacking enthusiasm. I have had professors Ohn, Martin, and Geyfman. Professor Ohn had very little structure in his teaching, and his grading was a complete mystery. He rarely handed your assignments back with your grades, and took extremely long to grade them anyway. Martin did not teach anything outside of the book, making class unnecessary except for the bonus points he awards for answering questions. Geyfman is the only redeeming finance professor I had, and fortunately had her for 4 classes, if I remember correctly. Sometimes she has trouble getting a few ideas out, but 95% of the time her teaching methods are effective. Her classes scaled up in difficulty in accordance with the class level, which was good to see. For the students, I find that far too many of them do not care about their classes and just want to drink. I have had very bad experiences in group projects due to this. They also seem to not know much about their fields, despite being juniors and seniors.

In the end, the university's accounting faculty is great. The finance faculty, aside from Geyfman, is poor. The students are not very motivated and do not care to learn, just to pass. The surrounding area isn't that great either. I would have gone to a different school if I could.

There are a lot of pros and cons as to attending Bloomsburg University. They just about balance out.
I live in Philadelphia. I knew that coming to Bloomsburg was going to be a big change from living in the city. (How did I know? I took the tour. Any interested college student should tour the schools they are considering for this reason). I basically knew all about Bloomsburg's drinking-school reputation, and I also knew that it was a relative small town with not much to do on the weekends.

Even knowing these things, nothing could prepare me for the adjustment I had to make. I went from big city excitement to small town lackluster nights. Mind you, a lot of the kids here are from small towns anyway. Also, a lot of kids here drink. I don't drink. IF YOU DON'T DRINK, you're not going to be crazy about this school, at first. The only advice I can give, is to find things that interest you, and do them on the weekends. When you aren't doing these things -- Do your work. That's why you're in school. It's not all about having things to do anyway.Another thing is, if you are a minority, it's a bit of a culture shock. I'm Black, and honestly, I knew how bad the ratio of whites to minorities was, but nothing really prepared me for the shock of being the only Black person in most of my classes, and one of the few minorities in my major. It's all about mentality after a while, though. Your here to work hard, so that gets put in the back of your mind. Just don't be shocked when you get here and don't see a lot of people like you.
