| Quite Bright | Do not go to Bryn Mawr if you are interested in the arts. It does not have ANY visual arts program, and Haverford's is extremely small and weak. Bryn Mawr is not a normal college experience. Forget what everyone says about ties to Haverford- if you want to meet boys, even just for friendships, you will not. Note that a number of your peers at Bryn Mawr will find themselves unhappy in the absence of guys and that these negative attitudes will also affect your experience. | Individual Value: A+, Education Quality: F | | | |

| Quite Bright | Bryn Mawr is without a doubt one of the best colleges, and college environments, in the nation. Yes, it's a "women's college" - but that doesn't mean it's a "single-sex college". They are quite different concepts. There were men from Haverford and Swarthmore, and even some male Bryn Mawr grad students, in most of my classes, but the college is filled with positive female role models - leadership positions, professors, etc. While at Bryn Mawr I barely noticed the influence of these role models, or of the environment of confidence and self-determination the college provides - but when I went to grad school (UVA) I could REALLY tell the difference. Looking back on my experiences at the two institutions, I would strongly recommend that any female with ambition and intellectual curiosity go to a women's college. While all the women's colleges remaining of the "Seven Sisters" (Vassar is now coed, and Radcliff no longer exists as a college) offer this essential benefit, Bryn Mawr offers the advantages of proximity to a major city, a mixed-gender environment, and a drop-dead-gorgeous campus. | Preparedness: A, Reputation: A | | |

| | Bryn Mawr is a very tough school, academically and socially, but deciding to go there was the best decision of my life. The women who choose to go there are self determined and often choose their cosy dorm room over a wild party, which can get difficult at times. It is not uncommon for the women of bryn mawr to throw themselves completely into thier work. While this irritated me as an undergraduate, the moment i left bryn mawr I realized what a treasure my time was there. I spent 4 years solely dedicated to learning, lucky enough to follow my own interests under professors who nurtured my curiosity. The honor system prohibits students from speaking to each other about grades. I, in all honesty, i didn't know what kind of GPA's my friends had until honors were announced at graduation. This allows each student to follow her own academic interests unfettered by catty competition. Yet there is competition at Bryn Mawr: one competes against oneself, which can be far more taxing than using your friends as a measuring stick. When you only have yourself to measure up against, there is no excuse for failure. Another aspect of Bryn Mawr that I cherish is that it is not a place for women to "find thier voice." The women who come to Bryn Mawr already have an idea of who they are: they are not going there to run away from the world, but because they want to make a place for themselves in the world. Bryn Mawr made me tough, and it helped me learn how to ask the right questions. | Preparedness: -, Reputation: - | | |

| Quite Bright | Bryn Mawr provided me with strong academic skills, an understanding of how to succeed, and incredible friends! It is a school for women who want to build the character and skills necessary to set and achieve high goals. It is an excellent school with many opportunities for extra-curricular activities. Students work hard but have fun. It definitely prepared me to excel in my doctoral program. The friends I made are still many of my closest friends. | Starting Job: teacher, Houston, TX and Phoenix, AZ, Preparedness: -, Reputation: - | | |
