 | Super Brilliant | Kids, run. Grove City is lying to you about the education you're receiving. I was fortunate enough to transfer to a first-tier college in New England; this after repeated faculty assertions that I "couldn't get a better education anywhere else"; my professors "wouldn't give me the time of day"; classes at other schools would be huge, etc., etc. At my new college, my advisor worked with 10 students. I ate dinner at many professors' houses and had, in general, a wonderful, mind-expanding time of it. I'm now working on my Ph.D. at an Ivy League University, with a full stipend--something that would have never been possible with a GCC BA. | | | | I don't know how I ended up at this school. I have been exposed to alot more than these kids. It reminds me of high school: the sequel. Fortunatly, there are others here like me. They are called the non-Grovers, and they are not hard to pick out. The only way to have fun and develop any decent social skills beyond the boundaries of a primitive primary education, where popularity is gained by faking a personality (which still makes up 75% of our student body), is to be heavily involved in extracurriculars. One good thing, though, is that there is no negative peer pressure. The fraternity that I will join suggested that I wait an extra semester to bring up my grades before pledging... that a group of friends I've only known for a semester would voice concerns of the kind displays the positive environment commonly advertised by the school. On the other hand are the retarded rules. Freshman have curfews first semester. I remember coming in right on time one night, and having the head resident of my dorm count down from ten. I got in trouble once for hanging an unoffensive t-shirt out the dorm window. I got in trouble once for letting a girl come in to use the bathroom, because girls are only allowed in when you want to be out... the weekend. And what is there to do in Grove City? Well if you want, you can go watch "The Santa Clause 2" at the local theater, or drive 20 minutes for a real theater. Or you can bowl in the student union basement for fifty cents and a chance to be yelled at by the old guy who works down there. Or you can buy a chicken tender wrap (the only edible food on campus), but you'll have to be ripped off for it. Or you can hang out in Ketler rec and watch couples make out all night (not as fun as it sounds). Mr. Lee is the only cool local. He owns the local Chinese restaurant. I leave campus, and for that matter, Grove City, at least twice a week to search for fun. I would probably leave if I hadn't made such good friends so quickly. | Preparedness: -, Reputation: - | | | |

| | Quite Bright | Grove City College is a respectable learning institution with the normal flaws that accompany any college or university. However, becase Grove City builds itself up to be the savior of Christian education, one cannot help but be disappointed when matriculating here. Perhaps I should clarify that by saying most social science majors will be frustrated with the lack of quality within their departments and most science/engineering majors face an exceptionally difficult course load. As a social science student, I am exceptionally disappointed that the one class in which I have been challenged is Chemistry--yet because I am NOT a science major and do not understand an iota of what is going on, it is more depressing than motivating. In terms of positives, this is a very safe and beautiful school that does give its students a taste of existing within a Christian community. | Faculty Accessibility: A+, Surrounding City: F | | | |
