Quite Bright
I really like it here. I applied to a lot of Colleges and I was really looking for a school where I could balance school work and a social life easily and Marywood has definitely done that for me.

I was really looking for a school where I could be on campus, focusing on my studies and hanging out with friends and not be bothered by parties, excessive noise or drunken idiots but still be able to go to parties and have fun on weekends. That's what first really drew me to this school was that all parties were away from the campus so there was no distractions or no wanting to go out when I needed to be studying.

Another thing I really enjoy are the foods. I've stayed at other colleges and visited my friends, and Marywood by far has the best selection. Some kids like to say it sucks, but after having far worse I really appreciate what they try to do for us. There are usually 5 different entrees a night to choose from, all ranging from pasta to pizza to steak or Chinese/Mexican/Italian/Caribbean food. Plus soups, salads, ice creams, sandwich bar, bagels, cereal, and a lot of fountain drinks.

If you are thinking about attending this school I would highly suggest doing an overnight with a current student. And please realize that this is not a huge party school. Do not come here with the expectation of going out every night and them complain when there are no parties. Well DUH, its not a party school. It's a University that gives you a good education. If you are someone that values partying over education....dont come here. But if you are someone that actually wants to learn but party sometimes, then this school would be a good place to apply!

Oh and most of the people who don't like it here are generally commuter students who live at home still. All of my commuter friends hate it because they're not really experiencing college, its just the 13th grade for them. I suggest going away to college, its a MUCH better experience.

Hope this helps some people :)

These comments are very mixed. Let me give you all the pros and cons of this school
PROS:
1.Dorms are huge and new!
2.Food is great, buffet style every night and it's always something new.
3.Professors are pretty lax when it comes to homework and assignments. Usually you will only have 1 or 2 professors a semester that will give you busy work, the rest know your in college and do stuff like that in class.

4.Majors
5.Campus
6.Freshmen can bring Cars
7.Even though its a Catholic college, most people don't associate with the religion. Most of my friends aren't even catholic and some aren't even christian.

8.Scranton area has over 5 colleges so its a big college city
9.The cancel classes after 3 or more in of snow.
10.Parties are always going down in the Scranton area and in off campus houses
11.People are really close and friendly.
12. 2 words. PARADE DAY!!!!!
13.Scranton is full of hiking trails and scenic views, if you're into that.
14.A lot of buildings on campus are really new so its really nice. Especially around the Art Field.
15.Its easy to get a new roommate if you hate yours. You only have to put up with them for a week or 2 before the university gives you a new room or roommate and generally the second roommate is so much cooler.

16.The school nurse hands out prescriptions for everything, shes pretty chill.
17.Hardware Bar, cool night club.
18.Off campus housing is fairly easy to find.
CONS:
1.Winter is cold
2.Security thinks they are actual cops. How many security guards does it take to move a trapped car? In my experience exactly 7. They aren't the smartest.

3.The library is pretty old(note: they are knocking it down and building a new one this year)
4.Parking situation sucks. If your a Freshmen, you have to walk a mile to get to the Freshmen lot and if you park in a different lot they ticket you. And people break into Freshmen cars A LOT, because the lot is so far from the actual campus.

5.The ladies at the Cashier office are not the nicest.
6.Front Desk people think they're God. Hate them all.
7.Last year the power went out the week before finals and it took the school a few weeks to 'properly' fix it

8.Dunmore cops will arrest you for underage drinking, Scranton cops will laugh at you and tell you to keep the party noise down.

9.They have a lot of student clubs but not many students actually join them
10.Commuter students suck. They think they're cool because they are from the area, believe me, its not something to be proud of.

I am very happy with my decision to come to Marywood. This school is a
perfect fit for me, but it might not be for everyone. Below is my opinion.
Food - The food is really good. There are lots of healthy choices. I personally think it is a little expensive. I went with the 12 meal plan a week. It is easy to grab a bagel or to have cereal or some lunch in your dorm. I also have a good storage of snacks in my room.

Education - My classes are quite challenging, but I expected that for college. There is a lot of work, so I spend a lot of time studying and so does my room mate. The professors got to know me right away because there are under 25 students in every class. One of my classes only has 16, it's great. I would have gotten lost at a state school, 35 to 40 students is way too many! I feel I am really learning and will get a good education. For the

first time in my life I am enjoying school and the work. And I am also very thankful to have a writing center LOL.

Dorms - All dorm rooms in every college are small. At Marywood, I like having the private bathroom and also it is great having the sink in the room. You do not have to buy bed lifters, the beds are already equipped to go up as high as you want. I like having my bed very high with my desk under it, this gives me more space in my room. There is a laundry room on every floor and it is free, no coins needed. There is also a student lounge and study room on every floor. Everything is kept clean.

Social - I have made so many good friends here. There are a lot of things to do. The gym is a great way to stay in shape. The SGA organizes lots of different FUN activities for every day/night of the weekend. The mall is not too far and a great place to shop. Wal-Mart is almost in walking distance. You can always show your school spirit by attending a school sports event. We have a lot of sports teams for a small school. There are also intramurals

for more of a fun, less competitive time and pick up games too, ultimate freebee seems to be a favorite. I have a good time just watching some of these crazy games. There are tons of clubs you can join and each one has the r own activities. The school really tries to encourage ev ryone to join the parish volunteering group. This group is always busy doing something interesting and it is also a good thing to go on your resume. I go home once a month, but I prefer to stay on weekends because it so some much fun. There is a group of students that goes skiing every Saturday in the winter to a place that is in Scranton. Bingo is once a month, I know that sounds lame, but believe me it is so much fun and you can win lots of money! The student center is a great place to hang with friends and then there is always movie, crafts, and game nights. Scranton has everything if you want to venture out

a little. We even get discounted tickets to the movies in town. There are so many things to do and always something going on, you will never be bored here!

Orientation - Marywood has a great orientation program. They try to get everyone familiar with the school and do a lot of activities to promote new friendships.

Location - Scranton Pa is an up and coming area. I would not mind living up here one day. The people are friendly and hard working. The area is safe and there is something for everyone.

Security - I feel so safe on our campus. I have walked alone at night many times and was never frightened. Our security does a good job looking after all of us. They take their job very seriously. They even helped me one night when my car wouldn't start. Always say "Hi" to a security guard.

Student body is mostly white with a middle class catholic up bringing. Everyone is friendly and considered to each other. We are like one big family. I have more friends now then I did in high school. I have made friendships here that I know will last a life time.

Facilities and campus - are up to date and clean. I like that I can walk the whole campus in a short about of time, but I also like that we are on 115 acre so there is lots of extra space to roam. I don't like the hill. The

sports teams like the new turf field with lights. We just got brand new pool facilities. Marywood is not afraid to spend money to keep things new and nice; this place has definitely become my second home.
