 | Bright | The college is very good academically. I enjoyed being able to integrate faith with my studies. Classes are a nice size and professors are always available to you. Many profs open up their homes to their students. The faculty are very knowledgable and well educated. If you are looking for a college based on academics then this is the place. However, socially I hated the place and should've transferred but stayed because of the friends I had made. I dredded going back to school each semester. I hated how some students felt really fake. If you didn't enjoy high school then Messiah is not the place for you. Because it's a small school a lot of the same crap goes on. If I had to do it all over agian I'd go to a college where I was a number and there weren't so many rules concerning my social life. | Education Quality: A+, Useful Schoolwork: F | | | |

| | Bright | Messiah College concentrates on academics. You are there to learn and not necessarily socialize. I am from out-of-state but I live in Pennsylvania now. I have a good job, it is not related to my major but I am enjoying myself. When people ask me about Messiah I always say, academically Messiah was superb, socially it was terribly lacking. Granted, Messiah is a private, religiously supported school so it is not strange that the student population seems extremely homogeneous. However, I was disappointed in the lack of diversity on campus, whether regarding race, creed or religion. I felt that many students and professors came from exactly the same background. Therefore, they felt the same way concerning social topics, including homosexuality, abortion, drinking, capital punishment, etc. These topics were discussed but you were looked down upon if you were not in the majority. i.e. During the 2000 Presidential Election the campus had a rally for Bush but not a thing for Gore. I would say definitely visit!!! Make sure you talk to all types of students, not just one or two. And definitely ask about the rules. You are asked to sign a "covenant" at the beginning of each year. This covenant holds you to certain rules, including refraining from sex and drinking. It is completely voluntary but if you do not sign you have to meet with someone frequently to talk about why you didn't sign it. These are merely my opinions but if I had known certain things about Messiah before I got there I don't think I would have gone there. | Starting Job: Research Assistant, Preparedness: -, Reputation: - | | |

| | Quite Bright | Messiah College has been the perfect place for me to realize my own potential and gain confidence in my gifts and abilities. While 'the Bubble' can get overwhelming sometimes (meriting a weekend trip to Philly), the rural location fosters greater on-campus community . . . and almost everyone is pretty focused on their work. We all complain about how much homework we have, NOT our hangovers. Intelligent discussion abounds, but sometimes theological debates get old. However, it's easy to find students with similar theological backgrounds - spiritual growth is high. Professors are highly accessible and willing to invest in their students. I personally have three mentors/advisers who I meet with bi-weekly. Co-curricular activities only strengthen the educational experience. Study abroad programs are strong, and everyone (with the exception of nursing majors) is encouraged to spend a semester elsewhere. Overall, I love Messiah College and will probably be one of those alums who pads the endowment. | Faculty Accessibility: A+, Surrounding City: D | | | |
