I was looking for a bigger school at first, but the quaint college and town of bethlehem seemed ideal. I was also going to be a collegiate athlete at Moravian so it seemed perfect-at first. The longer I stayed, the sooner I realized how unhappy I was with my college decision. Here's why: Academics: I feel like I was not challenged enough academically. I was a straight a student in high school, and easily obtained a 3.68 during my first semester while being a college athlete. I feel like I did not gain enough knowledge to be paying 40,000+ a year to attend this school. Dorms: The dorms are flat out depressing. I was a very active member at the college and could not stand my living space. After I visited other friends at other colleges and universities, I realized just how bad the housing is here. I could not stand being in there for more than an hour. Food: Very unhealthy. You hacve salad bar as a choice, that's about it, Students: Very friendly. Most of the students in my class were very social. I've met a lot of nice people. However, it is indeed a suitcase school. No one is to be found on weekends. It's amazing how many cars you see dropping off students at school on a Sunday which makes the college atmosphere very boring. Parties: Depending on the night, they can be fun. Either fraternities or upper class housing will have them. They are nothing wild though-usually get busted by the moravian police. Moravian Police: I did feel safe for a majority of my stay. However, I recieved two tickets for parking. One 75 and one 300 dollars. I could not even confront the Moravian Police or Campus Safety as the why I recieved the tickets. I never paid them. Athletics: Bottom line, if you're a hard core athlete, this school is perfect for you. Overall: I regret my decision to be a student-athlete at this school. The academics were not challenging, there are no activites on campus, it's a suitcase school, parties are average, but the people are friendly. It's nothing like my friends schools who attend universities and other colleges. There are not a lot of things to do at Moravian. It's boring and I cannot wait to leave after this year to attend a large university. Friendliness: A+, Extracurricular Activities: F Have a Question? When I was in high school, I didn't really know where I wanted to go, or what I wanted to do. So, I let my parents (Moravian Alumni) do the picking for me. Worst mistake of my life. The year I spent at Moravian was the worst education I've ever gotten, the people there are all rich, snot-nosed brats who paid their way in, the coursework was a joke, the professors are likely the parents of all the snot-nosed brats walking around, and the advising tried to push me to take classes I did not want to take, not because they were required classes, but because they wanted me to pursue interests I did not have. (I was undecided at the time) I left that school immediately and actually started attending Northampton Community College. Oddly enough, NACC is 10x the school Moravian was, and it's only a 2-year community college. The situation is just laughable. Save your money, save your time, and save yourself from being treated like you're still in High School. Oh, and by the way, unless you're a commuter, you're going to be forced to live on-campus. I loved my highschool, which had about 2,000 kids, and thought I would feel the same way about Moravian and would benefit from it's education program. I promise I'm not a freak that stays in my room all weekend and likes to attend the "stitch and bitch" knitting club. Although it's a D3 school that loses every game, sports are the only thing these kids understand. The school doesn't have much school spirit, which probably sounds like it contradicts my last sentence, but sports become a priority with friends/weekends. It's a suitcase school, so the only kids that stay on the weekends are those who are on a sports team, which makes it difficult for other students like me to have fun. People seem friendly the first week or two of school, but since everyone is on a sports team, no one is willing to make other friends. The parties were fun at first, but after the excitement of college wears off, it's the same thing in a small, sweaty living room of an on-campus house. The other day there was a heavier girl who tripped over a tree stump. She remained on the ground, and my friend and I watched about a dozen people walk by without saying anything or asking if she was okay. Luckily, the tree was okay and the girl as well, but this incident is the epitome of the student body atmosphere: everyone minds their own business. The kids I know that love it are all on a sports team. I know a handful of kids that couldn't stay another semester and more are planning to transfer after this spring semester ends (including myself). The academics are hardly challenging - my high school may have been harder - and the fact is that if you're not challenged, aren't on a sports team and therefore can't get involved because the school doesn't offer a lot, then you spend your time and money doing nothing. The only thing I ever found interesting at a party was a 300-lb lesbian giving a "lap dance."If this turns you on, go here. I'm transferring.
