Penn State is probably the best thing goingNot so brightCommunications
Penn State is probably the best thing going today when it comes to an all-around college experience. Whether in-state or out, it's a bargain education and the faculty is very good. The campus is huge and beautiful and State College is the perfect town for this univeristy. Located literally in the middle of nowhere, State College is completely self-sufficent in every aspect of the term. The social life at Penn State is amazing. With the largest Greek system in the country, parties everywhere you look, and 25+ bars in a three block radius, there is always something to do. And, of course, there is Penn State football. Never in my life have a seen a community live and die with a team more than this team and this town. It is unbelievably exciting. There is just everything at Penn State - everything you could ever want - clubs, sports, arts, nature, and, yeah, even a little learning, too.

Any student here is in total control of taking the correct classes for his/her major. There is no adviser involvement at all. You will basically become a number in the system.

Question
The town of State College is extremely racist.Quite BrightComputer Science
The town of State College is extremely racist. Both the movies Amistad and Schindler's List were not shown in any of the 3-4 first run movie theaters. Instead, movies like Godzilla took 3 out of 6 screening rooms at one multiplex. Although the University now has a Jewish President, many of the faculty are still quite racist and anti-semitic. Students may experience some discrimination if their identities are obvious. Town permanent residents and police openly discriminate against students in terms of off campus housing policies, bicycle fines, etc. Its amazing that taxes collected by the city of Philadelphia support a school which so blatantly discriminates against minority students when Philadelphia is itself fairly integrated. The campus is majority Caucasian although slowly integrating. Amazing since is now past 2000. Newspapers should avoid hiring anyone with "Collegian" news experience as the student paper is re-known for its slanted and often yellow-journalism. The state should consider cutting off support from the institution, or at least funding a full time anti-discrimination police office to crack down and reform the situation.
