All in all, SVC is the best possible place for me to be - that doesn't mean it's great for others, though. I came for a fairly quality small liberal arts college, and that's exactly what I got. There are lots of little problems - overcrowding, focus on freshmen THIS year, never enough classes/classes close the first day, scary caf food, upperclassmen dorms that are firetraps... and yeah, that stuff gets on your nerves and doesn't make it a perfect school, but hey, works for me. Communication department... has issues. But maybe that's my own fault for being a comm major. Most professors are good people who really want to help you out and get to know your name, at least. People can be closeminded, but I've made really great friends, the majority of people are pretty decent, and I really do love it here.

Our University is very interested in growing. Unfortunately, there is little room for growth. The Caf is packed and cannot handle the quantity of students already attending. Scheduling is miserable becuase professors want small classes and few classes and there aren't enough choices. Housing for seniors is very nice, and there is a new state of the art freshman dorm. However, quiet housing is not quiet, and the middle class dorms are in desperate need of repairing. The wiring and heating systems need replaced. The Network does not work.

S.V.C. developed a strong sense of purpose and community. If I had undergraduate days to do over I would read a few more popular novels, attend more classes and not worry about building a social life. It will come of its own. I think I would pay a bit more attention to the assets of nearby cities and colleges and watch out for the potential to become isolated from the greater world which is the major weakness I see in S.V.C.'s strong community.
