There are pros and cons about UPG. If you are a Political Science Major you are going to work your butt off ( escpecially in Dr Gaddys Class). If you are not involved with an student organization then they do not care about who you are ( escpecially in political science). I got a temp job with my degree but then lost it so Putting UPG is kind of looked down upon because its not main campus in pittsburgh.

I went to UPG for two years. It started as "It's NO problem to transfer to main" but trust me, it's a HUGE lie. They kept raising the standards every year to make it more difficult to go to main. Their curriculum is also DIFFERENT than main campus so you think you are prepared and some classes don't even transfer! Also they want to be an independent college (hence the cougar vs panther mascot) but complain ALL the time that they don't get the funding from Pitt.

The advisors were TERRIBLE. They were rude and didn't HAVE a clue of what classes were needed. If you are going for a science major you need to get things done on a proper time scale, so don't count on them to do that for you. I literally had to walk in there and know EXACTLY what I wanted or they would try to "fill" you into classes that looked empty...I am not kidding. I even obtained a copy of my transcript record that including classes I never took while others were missing!!! Be prepared because the advisement is a JOKE!

The villages are such a joke too! No one socializes and you think you get to do all these cool things but they end up being a chore than fun. The villages apartment suites are wonderful and private but only expect to see your roommates in passing because everyone shuts their door. Then on the weekend everyone leaves and if you don't have a car you are left isolated from the world.

There is NOTHING within walking distance unless you walk a mile through the woods and end up in South Greensburg. Without a car you will have to beg other people to take you places. And lastly, everyone graduated with each other from high school so if you are out of the area forget about making a lot of new friends !

However, UPG is a BEAUTIFUL campus. Most teachers I encountered were wonderful and intelligent! All the library and cafeteria staff were really personable and sweet! If BJ is still there she even remembers your name! Small class sizes do work to an advantage but also limits how much that class is available. Another down side is that if you don't like a teacher in your department you will more than likely have them several times.

Please visit before you go there! I didn't and it was the biggest mistake I made.

UPG, though presented as a nice and caring facility, is really quite the opposite. The RA's are on a constant power trip, and act like Nazi's. Do not be surprised if you are singled out, targeted, and even spied on. This kind of treatment is not limited to their on-duty times, but also when they see you in the day as well. The food is disgusting, and, though advertised as being healthy, is an all you can eat fat buffet. The professors are nice, along with the nurse, but the rest of the administration will treat you as a child. Do not expect to be treated with much respect. At night, even during the weekends, the place is like a prison. They say that this is for your own safety, however, it is more of a pain in the butt, and you feel like you have no freedom. You probably will be more of an individual living at home. If you have a car, watch where you park. The University "Police" watch the parking lot like hawks, and if you are parked in the wrong space, it will be very likely that, with your budget in consideration, they will place a hefty fine on your car. Yes, that means even if you are a visitor. As for the Police, you would be better off hiring mall rent-a-cops. They sit behind their desks, watching the monitors, and stuffing their faces with doughnuts. They also enjoy hanging out at the RLO during duty to take a few minutes to rest their feet and watch TV. Need a ride? Don't bother asking the campus police. They like to drive around in their flashy vehicles, but are insanely rude if you bother to ask for a ride across the major street while in the midst of a thunderstorm. Take my advice, save your time and money. You are treated unequally here, and you will feel like this is a prison.

Don't go to this campus unless you want to feel like you are still in high school. Its not the school itself but the people that go there that suck. Everyone stays in their own little clique; there is almost no socialization, except if you are a freshmen and it is your summer orientation. Also, there is NOTHING to do unless you have a car. There is NOTHING within walking distance, and there is not even a convenience store on campus, so you can't get groceries! I'm transfering to main...
