First of all, don't disregard Widener because you think you'll get shot or something. I can assure you that more crime happens at Temple or Drexel than at Widener. Usually the people who exaggerate about the crime on campus are the rich, pampered kids who grew up in farm country that have no clue about being "street smart". If you walk around late at night with a skimpy dress on and are half-conscious because you drank so much--you will get attacked. If you count your money like an idiot outside, you will get robbed. The campus is totally safe, and most of the crime happens OUTSIDE of campus, in Chester. Also, Widener is not in the heart of Chester, it's right at the border. A mile or so out, and you're in Ridley, so it's pretty safe.

The education is much better than I thought it would be. I went in to Widener because I needed a lot of financial support (even though I could have gotten in anywhere because my stats were so good) and I wasn't really expecting much because they really accept anyone into their school. However, I realized that because of this, Widener staff values bright students much more than other schools. They practically come and BEG you to do research with them, or just come and talk to them in their office. They invite you to trips or conferences--all in all, a lot of doors are opened for you if you are bright and choose Widener. Also, classes are actually pretty tough. The students might be a little thick, but the professors all have PhDs. You have to study hard if you want an A, so don't expect an easy ride all four years.

I do have to admit, the social life is pretty lacking. I never go to frat parties anyway (SO LAME) but if you want to have fun, that's still possible. I went out with my friends lots of times, either to the city or one of the two malls located quite near the campus. We had fun getting lost and finding new restaurants and partying 'til the wee hours of the night. But we stayed SAFE by staying in large groups and looking out for each other and NOT DRINKING. Something bad is bound to happen to you anywhere if you drink irresponsibly, so don't blame Chester if you're drinking and you get into some trouble.Anyway, I strongly recommend Widener if you're looking for a relaxing and fun college experience. It's a great school. Everyone is seriously dying to get you to join their clubs or come to their activities. Plenty of stuff to do if you stay bright. :)

After reading so many negative ratings of Widener, I'm here to provide the positives. As in any situation in life college is a situation where independent action and attiude are essential. Unlike high school, professors are not going to spoon feed you information. These are college level classes that require a new level of committment and understanding. Yes, classes can be difficult and some professors can be arrogant...but you will truely find this at any university. As for the area, it is true that Chester is a very sketchy area. Despite this, campus is safe and campus security is everywhere along with a shuttle system that cuts down on walking off campus. As long as you practice personal safety, not much happens. Since WU isnt far from Philadelphia, there are many opportunities to exlore and experience the city. Dorms are small, but liveable none the less. This is college, not a 5 star hotel. There are plenty of campus activities and clubs, but you need to personally seek them out and get involved. Regarding price, the university offers many scholarships that help lower the cost. In my opinion, recieving a high quality education from a university that is well known thoughout my field of interest (the medical field) is worth every penny.

Widener is what you make of it. The school itself is quite good, the classes are small and the teachers care about you. However, the work is not always easy, and the people around you won't always care.Social life is essentially based on two things. Sports and Fraternities / Sororities. If you are not on a Sports team, join a Greek organization. There is something for everyone, each fraternities has their own clique that you are bound to fit into. Get involved in something or else you will feel left out.
