I would never have made the choice to attend BJU if I had known what I know now.
Steeped in racist history and based on an overly patriarchal, stiff-necked and harsh view of God and religion, this school is policed heavily and every aspect of life is controlled. The degrees are unaccredited. Good luck finding a job or getting into grad school. Maybe in the past, but now, not a sure thing. The happy drones don't know anything different. Different is punished.
Their faculty are paid very little, but much is required of them. Big gaps in learning occur because of "biblical" standards For example, music students are not permitted to learn about jazz, much less listen to it. Nurses are taught that psychological/psychiatric issues are sin problems. Questioning (surely part of the university experience and individual maturation) is not rewarded or encouraged. It's all "comply" and "griping not tolerated" and the many asinine sayings of their founder, placed above the chalkboards. If you happen to have a history of abuse and seek counseling, your information will be shared with others and you will be told you should not report to the authorities, and that you bear part of the responsibility for your abuse. They edit Shakespeare for "objectionable" content. They reportedly paint over nudity in their much-vaunted art collection. They don't permit Calvinism to be openly taught, the last I heard. Students are not permitted physical contact of any sort. They have been dropping majors and cutting faculty and staff. I don't believe they'll be around much longer, frankly. Do yourself a favor and go to a real school. | Starting Job: teacher, Preparedness: C-, Reputation: F | | |

| | Quite Bright | I loved BJU! The majority of the teachers were caring and helpful. The academic standards were high. Although many people have complained about the rules, I am thankful for the protection and character building opportunities that they provided. Some of my friends went to other colleges and dealt with awful things that were not even issues at BJU because of the high standards that BJU sets. If you aren't serious about studies, you just want to party, and you can't handle being responsible or respectful, BJU is not for you. But if you are looking for a place to learn, grow in Christ, and build character, BJU is the best place for you! | Starting Job: Teacher, Preparedness: A+, Reputation: B- | | |
