I agree with the posting below. This school is growing too fast and its resources are not meeting the students' needs. However, I disagree about the idea that FMU is better. I was there for two semesters and it was like hell for me. There is nothing to do in Florence and the university has nothing for you. The campus is very depressing and makes everyone depressed. Professors don't have the resources to teach. When they complain they get fired. So, everyone is afraid of retaliations. Since I came here, I met many students who had the same experience at fmu and they keep coming to CCU. My father told me yesterday, fmu is losing too many students and getting in deeper financial problems. My 2cents!

CCU is a fraud. If you're looking for a university with unfriendly professors or snooty students who are more interested in the mall than the classroom, you found it. Campus is pretty nice but you won't be here long before you figure out that you really don't count. Too much money for too little product, in my opinion. This time next year I'll be at USC or Francis Marion.

If you decide to come to Coastal, be sure to bring a lot of money and a car. There is nothing to do on campus nor is there a place near campus that you can buy groceries at without driving. The student center is awful and needs to be completely redone with more things that students want to do. The dorm rooms are good; quads are better of course, but they're overall nice. Staying at the woods is pretty cool because there is a semi-kitchen and more freedom then that of the rivers. However, the campus transportation at Coastal is really bad: there's only one bus that runs to broadway at the beach twice a week, and broadway's not as great as you might think after the first couple visits. It would be nice if we just at least had a Walgreens next to the health center so you can buy a six pack of coke at your leisure. Also, the laundry situation is horrible: out of three floors in just one freshman building (i.e. tons of people), there is only about 6 washers, of which at least 2 are always broken, and they all eat your quarters, not to mention that the quarter machine is always broken. Also, make sure you put at least seven quarters into the dryers so that your clothes will actually dry. The campus is quite nice, beautfiul scenery and right next to a decent golf course. Being close to the ocean is nice too (when you have a ride at least). The weather is nice and warm, and look forward to sunny days: it's hotttt until about October, and then it starts getting chilly. Great if you want to get away from snow. The faculty for the most part is friendly and seems to want to help you, but the commons staff can be less friendly at times. There is almost no dining options at Coastal: there is only two dining facilities, both of which get very old after the first couple visits and are not all that great to start out with, so be prepared to spend alot of money on delivery restaurants (Fox's pizza is DELISH btw!!!). If you do bring a car, be prepared to have no parking spaces left over.
