The people here are friendly, but some are not as friendly. Sometimes the students do not like if a person speaks intelligently, maybe they are not used to hearing such wonderful and intricate vernacular. If you are a college student, then you should not be afraid to express yourself with ornate words. They also tend to critisize others who do not think like them. Some students here can be also be a bit judgmental and you cannot really wear what you want to wear because if you try to be an individualist, then people will look down on you or make fun of you. I am a pretty open-minded person who likes the term "avant-garde". The people here also tend to "floss what they got" and personally, that is not really necessary. You are here to get an education, not to be in a fashion show. The only major problem I have with the institution is the no co-ed dormitory visitation. I really think that we are mature enough to handle that priveledge, and the visitation does not have to be during the week. If co-ed visitation was permitted, it would also help to people make more friends and be more open-minded. Another issue that disturbs me is the lack of security by Goff Street and the High Rise dormitory. At night, people have to walk by those areas and there is NO security in sight. I would like to request that at least two officers are on duty in those locations. Preferably in the security box facing High Rise. The area is not safe, especially at night. Another issue that is a bit troublesome is the Assembly classes that are mandatory for freshmen and sophomores. Every Tuesdays for the freshman and Thursdays for the sophomores, the students must attend a fifty minute class to hear different leaders lecture about what to do in life and their experiences in life. I do not feel the need to hear someone that I barely know to tell me what I need to do in MY life. It's not like I know that person or they are really helping me out, so it doesn't really matter. Other students also agree with this statement. Informal sermons are nice but not always necessary. People do not want to sit in a class that they do not really have anything to do with their major. It is just a waste of time. The mandatory programs for freshman and sophomore Assembly students at night are also not necessary. Some people tend to act disrespectful at these events, which embarasses the institution as a whole and if the faculty really want to have these particular type of programs, then they need to give the students some choices and ask the students what they may be interested in. That way, the students may contain themselves in a proper manner and not to inexcessantly banter during the programs. The plays shown at the university were really interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed them (especially the dance troupe), but not a lot of people enjoyed the last theatrical event because the some of the audience could not get out of the little box they have been in all of their lives. I guess it was hard for some people to relate to a British governess and a wealthy-proprietor. Sorry to digress and now back to the subject about Assembly versus Orientation--- I think the Orientation class is a lot better because everyone feels more comfortable being in an intimate atmosphere. It is annoying having to go to a class and you can barely hear the speaker's lecture. Nothing against the directors, but Orientation is just alot easier and less hassle. Maybe Assembly can just be for freshman and eventually the sophomore Assembly won't be necessary. I really do not have any problems with the eating facilities (Dining hall and the PAW), but I wish they would add more desserts to their menu. Their fruits and vegetables could also be fresher. Campus wise, the parking should be expanded and JST needs to be renovated again. I heard that Dunton is being renovated this summer, and that is good for the residents who reside there. Otherwise, the university is pretty good and I would highly recommend it if you like friendly, compassionate professors, usually taking more than 15 hours, going to church or mass, and being in an easy going town.
