| Quite Bright | I am an out-of-state freshman and Charleston seemed like a wonderful place to go to school. I have to say Charleston as a city is absolutely beautiful and great for walking. Overall my classes have kept me interested and are challenging and often rigorous. However, the student body is fairly lacking in a few areas. The girls are, for the most part, very preppy and wealthy, and focus more on tanning and partying than actual school-work. CofC also does not have a very friendly employee population. The professors are, in general, wonderful, but the people working housing, financial aid etc. are often very rude and unhelpful. It has been difficult finding a niche at CofC. You are either very preppy or a complete arts freak, both of which are not very welcoming. On the weekends there are few options outside of smoking weed or going to a party and getting completely trashed. The city has so many interesting places to see, but few of these local interests are utilized. While I love Charleston, the student body is less than satisfying and ultimately the reason for me transferring. CofC has the potential to be an amazing school, but the lack of school spirit brings it down a peg. People wear Clemson and USC gear more than CofC and that kind of says something in a small way. This school is great for some people, but not necessarily the best for others. Hopefully this is helpful. | Campus Aesthetics: A+, Individual Value: C | | | |

| Bright | Pros: It's a nice college with a laid back student body and friendly, and guys don't mind being outnumbered by the ladies. There is always something going on in the city of Charleston and the social life is pretty decent. Even though the school doesn't have a football team, there is plenty of school spirit around campus. Cons: There aren't too many problems with the college. I should stress that diversity is lacking at CofC, with asians and hispanics only taking up 2 percent of the student population. Make sure you look for housing early because dorm spaces are limited and finding an apartment in downtown Charleston can be expensive. | Social Life: B+, Individual Value: C+ | | | |

| Quite Bright | I'm convinced that this is the best college in the state, and we are much more academically challenging than one would think. The faculty are great, especially in the Political Science department. The campus is gorgeous and historic, and the surrounding city is beautiful. This is the only college in the state where students and faculty seem balanced ideologically (i.e. not all conservative). The College has done a great job of keeping up the liberal arts tradition. | Education Quality: A+, Perceived Campus Safety: A- | | | |

| Quite Bright | C of C is just what you expect. Lots of good-looking, friendly people, but not the most school oriented. The faculty is hit or miss being wonderfully brilliant or boring as hell. The overall experience is great while you're here, but you have to work to get your money's worth. It is some of the most fun I've had in my life, though. | Campus Aesthetics: A+, Useful Schoolwork: C+ | | | |
