Furman is an excellent college but if you are not a good student then you will not thrive; the academics are challenging. Often dubbed the "Country Club of the South," most students tend to be from wealthy backgrounds and are friendly and warm.

Furman is a great school with many great academic programs. The study abroad and engaged learning programs at Furman are among the best in the nation. However, it is important to note that personal connection and relationship with professors and staff are the most important criteria in succeeding at Furman.

Furman is not welcoming to minority students. If that is not a high priority on your list, Furman will be a good fit for you. Furman has been regarded as the "country club of the South". Furman has a beautiful campus. It comprises of mainly white students and professors maintaining the high standards of a distinguished university.

Question
Don't go to Furman for music unless you'reQuite BrightMusic - Performance
Don't go to Furman for music unless you're a composition major. The music dept has Terrible, condescending, arrogant profs. The students in music are generally outgoing, but only for the gossip they can start. The students in the bio dept are cold and distant. Don't let the tour guides fool you, this is not a generally happy place. Furman is an exceedingly close minded place just getting deeper into financial struggles. Know the tuition is going to keep going up and the student and education quality is going to keep going down. There is no education provided on campus that is worth the tuition.
