Not so bright
The academics at state are sub-par... the student body is racist towards whites and make you feel uncomfortable. The campus and food is ok but nothing great. For a white guy their wasn't much to do except get intimidated any time you wanted to play some BBall with the guys. I spent a year their and was glad to transfer to Carolina where my degree will be respected. State isn't a diploma mill by any means but it is nothing special to say the least.

South Carolina State is a HBCU and is a school that I would say "means well." They do have several problem, however, that may or may not fit your lifestyle. I was never the person to make a scene and be all loud and ghetto so in many cases I did not fit in with the crowd. Many of the events held at SCSU that were supposed to be or should have been cultural events were just oppurtunities used to play the hottest song (Rick Ross, Lil Boosie, etc.) There is nothing wrong with the music (in fact I love rnb, hip hop, and rap) but there is a time and place for everything and think State had a hard time realizing that. My advice to anyone planning on attending State is... visit the campus and do so several times. Take a look at the dorms... taste the food from the cafe and the pitt... observe the students walking along the street and see how they talk and act, talk to a few faculty members (and students), be aware of what you're getting into before you get into it. If everything is cool then thats great, but if not...at least you know. I attended State my freshman year and now I am going to Coastal Carolina to start my sophomore year. I learned alot about myself and my people at State, so for that I wouldn't change a thing...but I won't go back. Its bitter-sweet. Good Luck, I hope I helped someone

Bright
I'm about to start my Senior year at South carolina state university and I must say I wouldn't change it for the world. There have been many ups and downs but it's made me a better person. The dorms are a bit old, and the buildings could use a face lift, student parking could be better, and financial aid could be a little easier but these things make one appreciate the smaller things in life. The bonds you make at this school will last forever.GO BULLDOGS

Super Brilliant
I would not trade my time at South Carolina State for anything in the world. My professors challenged and supported me every step of the way. This college has helped provide me with knowledge of self, which is invaluable. I am forever indebted to this institution and it has propelled me to teach at an HBCU myself.
