Winthrop University. Visit and make sure you know people when you get in. It's a very close minded school. If you are from the North, beware your going to encounter racism on a level you never knew was possible. People in the south at this school are very hospitable but be wary.. they are an extremely judgmental campus. Join Greek life if you want some protection. If your hanging around the opposite sex too much the bible belt go-ers (majority of this school) are going to rip you apart.

However there are some nice things, the campus is gorgeous, and Winthrop lake is gorgeous. However you absolutely cannot judge a book by it's cover.

Academically the school is good, the teachers are relatively helpful depending upon your major.. be careful of the BIO HEAD.. he likes to be a little touchy.

A lot of people quite enjoy this school! YOU could be one of them.. but if you aren't creative with your weekends... you like to drink.. you like to go to parties.. you like ANY SCHOOL SPIRIT (like ANY) your NOT ABSOLUTELY NOT going to find it here..

One last thing.. Thomson food the main cafeteria.. is poisoning. Not even exaggerating.. I read before I came the food took a little to get used to, bring excessive amounts of tums.. It really is THAT bad.. They put olives in pasta accompanied by red peppers and pineapples.. you think I'm joking. I'm not. They never make normal chocolate cupcakes.. everything tastes like; skittles, olives, onions, or mushrooms.. and not in a tasty way. I know it seems like I'm ripping this school apart.. you can go there and obviously see the things you like.. but these are the things you'll learn not to like after a few weeks of being there! Do not be totally deterred! Just know this is my opinion.. I would NEVER go back, but I know people who attend Winthrop and happen to really like it!

Quite Bright
I had a wonderful experience as an undergraduate. I found my professors cared about me and my intellectual/personal development. The general education requirements well prepared me for new things I would encounter and helped me appreciate society's diversity. I learned how to focus on the things in which I excel and turn those into opportunities to help me grow in different ways. I have been pleased in every way with my Winthrop experience.

Not so bright
This school is horrible. The food makes you sick, the cops are jerks that only care about parking tickets. I was being harassed and called them and they didn't even file a report. The history department teachers are all friends, so if you have a problem with one, you WILL encounter problems with them all. Some of the teachers are bigots, one even called a homosexual kid in our class the f word. The quality of education is very poor. All Winthrop wants is your money, proven by the fact that tuition raises every five seconds. There is very little to do here unless you like going to the same parties every night.
